Bloomfield community raises more than $25k for local news and civic engagement - Bloomfield Information Project

131 people helped us raise more than $25,000 for local news and civic engagement in Bloomfield in our Founding Sustainer drive at the end of 2020.

We're endlessly grateful for our community's support. And we're excited to serve Bloomfield in the year to come!

Sign up for our daily newsletter to stay in the know.

The Bloomfield Information Project's Founding Sustainer drive raised more than $25,000 for the nonprofit local news organization.

01/07/2021

Our statement on today's events in Washington, D.C.:

We normally avoid reporting national news because it's usually not useful for day-to-day life in Bloomfield. But today a violent mob supported by President Trump and a significant proportion of his party's elected officials stormed the Capitol Building in an attempted coup seeking to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election.

As of this writing, it's being reported that the insurrectionists have been cleared from the Capitol grounds and Congress plans to return to the Capitol to finish the counting of Electoral College votes. As it should – democracy should not waiver against fascism.

The Bloomfield Information Project is a local organization but our work is aligned with all those who seek to achieve full freedom and democracy for all. Oppression is not welcome in our community. White supremacy is not welcome.

You're not alone if you're disturbed by today's events. Know that there are movements in Bloomfield and across the country working to expand democracy – not just maintain the status quo. We can build a better world. And in Bloomfield, we're doing it.

In solidarity,

Simon Galperin

Become a Founding Sustainer by Bloomfield Information Project

2020 saw the largest protest movement in U.S. history, including gatherings of hundreds in Bloomfield affirming Black lives matter and denouncing systemic racism.

Bloomfield Information Project reported from the first local march in remembrance of George Floyd. We compiled a Bloomfield citizens' agenda from comments at a community meeting. We investigated people's concerns about policing on Bloomfield Ave. And followed up with the town council on your behalf. After we rounded up the latest on the issue, officials at a community meeting said the police department would have an independent study conducted.

That's the kind of local journalism Bloomfield deserves. It helps you understand how national movements manifest in daily life in our community. But it takes dozens of hours to produce. And it needs your support.

We have just two weeks left in our donation-matching period to raise the money we need to support our work in the new year. We plan to launch community training programs, a Spanish-language news service, and do more original reporting.

If you can, please donate to support our work at bloomfieldinfo.org/give by Dec. 31. Your monthly donation will be matched 12x or your one-time gift will be doubled.
