Indie Film Podcast Welcome to Indie Film Podcast, where our goal is to share all of the mistakes we’ve made in our filmmaking journey, so you don't have to!

What else could possibly happen?

Sometimes the chaos of the past can make the future seem incredibly relaxing. And hey, at least you probably won’t knock over a jib on your next live broadcast!

Tracking receipts might be boring… But all those little deductions add up.

What’s your “exit strategy” from your corporate gig? It can be a wide variety of things, you know, it just has to align with your goals.

Don’t quit your "day job" to make films.

…at least not because you think your passion project feature is about to pay your rent. 😅

This week on Indie Film Podcast, we’re talking about what actually happens when you leave a steady job for freelance filmmaking, creative work, and the chaos—er, sorry, freedom of entrepreneurship in the arts.

Because yes, creative freedom is real! (And yes, it does feel good!)

But so are:
* unpredictable income
* taxes
* receipts
* weird freelance gigs
* delayed invoices (or ghost-like clients)
* savings panic
* and the deeply unsexy spreadsheets that keep the dream alive

(And...many of those feel, well, less good.)

We quit our jobs to make films. So…was it worth it?

So your old indie film makes you want to bury it? That’s ok, most of the “iconic directors” feel the same way!

But it’s ok to have bad past projects in your portfolio, just, you know...don’t lead with them in your demo reel.

Even Coppola makes mistakes sometimes, though to be fair he stands by this one not being a mistake. Any thoughts from anyone who’s seen One From The Heart?

Your old film makes you cringe? Good! That probably means you’re growing.

This week on Indie Film Podcast, we’re talking bad films, embarrassing old work, filmmaker mistakes, and why the projects that haunt you might also be the ones that teach you the most (albeit in ways we wish they didn't...)

Because making a bad film doesn’t mean you failed. Refusing to learn from it? That's less great.

New episode is live: You Made a Bad Film. Now What?

Find it on YouTube or wherever you get your favorite podcasts (link in bio!)

What’s one lesson your old work taught you?

Are you budgeting for celebrities? Honestly you probably don’t need to. Yes, some festivals do care about the star power and audience draw, but, honestly? For most festivals, the content of your film matters a lot more than who you have in the credits.

Stop submitting blindly to any festivals that are accepting projects. Take the initiative to reach out and ask if your project is a good fit first, and save yourself some entry fees!
