My story with cellulitis…
I have ALWAYS gotten superficial thrombophlebitis in my veins, aka blood clots at the surface of your vein. It always happens with an IV or simple blood draw. Only God knows why…
I was in the hospital for epilepsy reasons. My IV was getting crumbier by the day. When I was moved out of the ICU I had asked the nurse if she could change it. She said it looked fine.
Overnight, I developed a high fever (that I wasn’t even aware of until the night nurse woke me up to get my vitals), night sweats and a very low blood pressure.
She noticed my IV site and took it out immediately, placing a new one in a different spot. I was fine at the end of it, but they were concerned about sepsis and contacted the doctor to start antibiotics right away.
When the doctor came in the next morning, she said she was very surprised how my IV got that bad so quickly causing my body to essentially go into shock I guess lol. All I know is that I was annoyed being in the hospital and wanted to go home 😂
If something is wrong with your patient, PLEASE listen to them! There have been many times when I wasn’t listened to and it has resulted in bad outcomes. Thankfully this didn’t end too bad. I just have a teeny tiny scar!
We had to come back to the ER for more antibiotics because the first round didn’t stop the infection and I developed a fever again, but it could’ve ended way worse!
