Elizabeth Dougherty

Elizabeth Dougherty The TRUTH about Food and Travel I love to cook and travel! I have been cooking and traveling extensively for more than ten years.

As the fourth generation of chefs and gourmet grocers in my family, my mother, Francesca Esposito and grandmother, Carmella served as major influences in my early cooking years. As a teenager, my family sent me to Europe where I became focused on French and Italian cuisine. She survived a year and half of culinary tutelage under an amazing Swiss-German chef. I managed to graduate at NYIT, Magna Cu

m Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business and Labor Relations. I also have a Nutrition Certificate from Cornell University. I taught cooking classes, and served as a personal chef for individuals and small parties. I consulted for restaurants and other food service organizations in menu development as well as cost saving measures. As a freelance writer, I have written hundreds of articles for many different publications. I created and developed the “Food and Travel Nation" page on Facebook. In 2010, I created a light-hearted, entertaining, informative radio program, "Food Nation Radio". It's a mix of everything FOOD, including guest interviews, recipes and food/restaurant related features. In 2020, we added travel to include more hospitality features. With previous memberships in the International Association of Culinary Professionals, the James Beard Foundation and National Restaurant Association, I have tried to keep abreast of the current and ever-changing trends in the culinary world. When I am not talking about food and travel, I enjoy creating my own paintings.

I have been a foodie since traveling to Europe as a teenager. My focus was mostly on Italian food (from my mother, Francesca Esposito) and also French cuisine (mostly based on Italian dishes anyway).

Along the way, I attended culinary school for about a year, then finished school with a Bachelor’s in hospitality from NYIT. I’ve written about food and healthy living for a number of different publications which (I think) are listed at foodnationradio.com . Years ago, I was initially called to a meeting at WDBO in Orlando about doing a food program on the radio. At that time, it just wasn’t for me. Then, I was approached again about doing a program on WGUL in Tampa Bay. I decided to give it a go, but most of my stories were not locally based so the show was rebranded to Food Nation Radio Network ®.

Two broadcast awards and several syndications later (and a few hundred radio stations) I needed a break. After a couple of years of rest and recuperation, I am heading back into national syndication on June 6, 2020.

Thanks for your support along the way. If you need a kitchen gadget, recipe advice or have any other food-related question, you can always reach me at [email protected] . Frankly, it’s your support and love that will keep this going. So, if there are food items or kitchen items you need, please check our discounts at https://foodnationradio.com first.
