Almost Paradise In North Idaho

Almost Paradise In North Idaho Ted's podcast explores issues with humor and interviews. He believes everyone has a story worth telling.

He likes listeners to feel like neighbors gathered around a campfire discussing current events, life, politics, sports, and faith.

In 1885, a stubborn, wandering pack animal kicked off one of the greatest silver rushes in American history or so the legend goes.

Out of supplies and out of luck, prospector Noah Kellogg was chasing after his runaway donkey when he stumbled onto an outcropping of silver ore that would transform North Idaho forever.

The story made headlines, launched a mining empire, and turned a four-legged drifter into local folklore. But striking it rich was only the beginning.

Because finding a fortune is one thing. Keeping it is another.
When the men who supplied the grubstake and the donkey itself, demanded their cut, the fight moved from the rugged hillsides straight into a frontier courtroom:

* Did the donkey actually discover the strike, or was it just a convenient cover story?

* If a borrowed animal points the way to millions, who really owns the mountain?

* And when a handshake agreement becomes wildly expensive, what is a promise actually worth?

Catch Part 1 & Part 2 of Who Owns The Treasure to hear both sides of the bitter dispute, the courtroom decision that stunned the Silver Valley, and the bizarre legal fate of a donkey named Bill.

Summer may still claim the calendar, but autumn has officially sent its advance scouts into North Idaho. 🍂

Between cooler mornings, garden slowdowns, dusk tennis matches doubling as wildlife safaris (dodging moths, mantises, and incoming geese), and Terry eyeing the neighbor’s golden ash tree with a freshly sharpened chainsaw, the signs are everywhere.

Beneath the humor is a gentle reminder from Ecclesiastes: to everything there is a season.

Tune in to this week’s episode as we lean into creation’s natural rhythms of change, work, and rest—and figure out how to keep Terry pointed toward the woods instead of the yard.

Playing tennis in the rain seemed totally reasonable until male pride met reality—and by the next morning, I was flat on my back battling sneezes, a sore throat, and the age-old question: cold, allergies, or both?

To make matters worse, a "healthy" gummy vitamin promptly yanked out my dental bridge on a Friday morning, leaving me surviving on soup and digging through every old-fashioned folk remedy from honey and onions to mustard plasters and goose grease while desperately counting down the hours until Monday's dentist appointment.

Every September starts with the same clean slate: fresh bulletin boards, untouched gradebooks, sharp pencils, and the silent vow to “never smile until October.”

Then reality hits.

Missing supplies, hallway drama, cafeteria mysteries, and the daily battle just to keep everyone on task.

It’s easy to get buried under the discipline referrals and grading rubrics, wondering if any of it is actually sinking in.

In this week’s episode, Ted reflects on twenty years in the classroom; the humor, the exhaustion, and the deeper truth every educator holds onto:

Teachers plant seeds they may never see grow.

Success isn’t always measured in test scores or immediate wins. Sometimes our job is simply to plant the seed. Someone else will water it down the road, and God will provide the growth.

To every teacher, paraprofessional, and school staff member stepping into the trenches this year: keep planting. It matters more than you know.

Episode 192

Have you ever had an experience so unexplainable that the only answer was divine intervention?

In Part 1 of this powerful conversation, Bruce joins Harold and Ted to recount the terrifying motorcycle accident that nearly cost him his life. Badly injured on the road and running out of time, Bruce shares how an unexpected encounter, one he truly believes was an angel, saved him at the critical moment.

Yet surviving the wreckage was only the opening chapter.

We wrap up this first part on an intense cliffhanger: a visit from Bruce’s pastor that shifted everything. Instead of focusing solely on broken bones and physical recovery, his pastor confronted him with a much deeper, life-altering question, one about the state of his soul.
