Photos from the women's DH races at the Lake Placid World Cup.

With the majority of photographers and editors being men, women in sports often don't receive equal/proportional coverage - and their photos tend to be focused on appearance, not action. The first race photos I uploaded back in the day, I got comments from women riders excited that there were photos of them. The second race I went to one of the riders stopped in practice and straight up asked if I could stick around for their race, because most other photographers didn't. I've been committed to trying to show how badass these women are ever since, and if any of my photos ever helps convince a young rider that they can do this too, that would be a huge accomplishment.

I'm so proud to have a bunch of badass women as repeat customers, and it's also great having Cynthia on the mountain shooting with me and sharing her perspectives. Only 18% of credentialed photographers at high-level events are women; if you're trying to break into sports photography I'm happy to share whatever I know to try and get you there.

From now on I’m only going to Whip Offs if they’re at twilight. 😉

Awesome day on the mountain here at Crankworx in Mont-Sainte-Anne, with some great DH action followed by Whip Off World Champs of North America. I’ll get the downhill photos posted when I can but looking forward to Slopestyle, Dual Slalom, AirDH, and short track XC on Sunday.

Some of my favorites from downhill practice and seeding at Crankworx in Mont-Sainte-Anne today.

Back at it tomorrow and if you're watching from home be aware that there's been some schedule changes to DH and Slopestyle.
