Abby Rosmarin - notjennifergarner Hey, has anyone told you that you look like Jennifer Garner? Writer for Huffington Post, Thought Catalog, and others. As seen on her insufferable blog.

Sporadic Zoolander, signed with Maggie Inc of Boston. She's got a few books out, so you should buy them. (And why is she writing about herself in the third person?)

I probably had the most severe case of preemptive homesickness since I was in undergrad. It was enough to make me question what I was doing, make me want to abandon everything and just stay in my cozy, familiar bed.

“A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.”

I knew that, once I did those hard goodbyes and got on the bus for Logan, I’d remember why I was doing this.

And here I am, waiting for my red-eye to Zurich, which will eventually get me to Split, Croatia. I’m exhausted and counting the minutes until I’m on my plane so I can close my eyes and attempt some shut-eye.

But I’m also excited as all get out.

Week one, I’ll be hosting a phenomenal group trip throughout Croatia thanks to TrovaTrip. Afterwards, I’ll be exploring Switzerland and Scotland, solo. I’ll be retracing my ancestors’ steps and hoping I’ve been making them proud.

It’s time to set sail.

Wes and I got to return back not only to Mt Zealand, but Thoreau Falls — this time using the Ethan Pond Trail instead of the unforgiving Thoreau Falls Trail.

Thoreau Falls is potentially one of the most remote waterfalls in the Whites (that’s accessible by trail) — but the Ethan Pond Trail is considerably more accessible.

Descending down from Zealand was brutal, but getting to see that boulder valley more than made up for it.

11 miles, 2100 feet of elevation gain, and a needed return to the trails.

The last time I was on Mt. Zealand, it was for my grand finale hike for the NH48. This was also back when I’d take a photo of me doing a handstand at every peak (within reason). I’m pretty sure the handstand photo from 2018 is still my icon for Zoom meetings.

So of course I had to repeat the process when I returned to Zealand today. I once had a pretty strong handstand — looks like I’m getting back to it.

Zealand -> Thoreau Falls via the Ethan Pond Trail. 11 miles, some brutal trails, and some incredible views. More photos and write up to come. But first I need food, shower, and a nap 😅

I’ve gotten a lot of flack from my biological family for not mincing words when it comes to either of my parents. And that’s okay. We all know what tends to happen to the messenger.

I say this as someone who would try to do the positive reframe — or the outright lie, the “best mom a girl could ask for!”: Lying to yourself (or others) about the true nature of things will rot your soul.

My mom is a product of her environment and a victim of early onset Alzheimer’s. There was a good heart and good intentions, but two things can be true at the same time.

Last year I celebrated Mother’s Day by celebrating all the work I’d done to reparent myself. Today I might just give myself some space to rest.

In case you didn’t know: today is the perfect date. April 25th, because it’s not too hot, it’s not too cold. All you need is a light jacket. And I didn’t mean to schedule such a date-date on the perfect date—this was literally the only day I was going to be able to see Hadestown while it was still in Boston.

But a little tattoo add on to my shoulderblade mosaic, finally got to enjoy the open deck at the top of the Prudential, and was blown away by an incredible performance tonight.

There is something poetic about having the perfect solo date on the perfect date 😍

This morning was one of those beautiful and heartbreaking reminders that “life is poetry; pay attention to when things start rhyming.”

Milo was always scared of the outside. Salem was the one who wanted to be outside, all the time (and our compromise was he can have supervised outside time on a harness and leash).

Milo wanted to be with his older brother, but he hated the harness as much as he feared the outdoors, so he usually just watched from indoors.

On Salem’s last day, I promised him I’d spend more time out on our porch, and I’ve been having my morning coffee there, nearly every morning, ever since.

Eventually Milo wanted in on the porch action. And, after months of staying on the porch, he felt brave enough to start exploring the world off of it.

I captured this photo, this morning, which is practically the fraternal twin to the photo I took of Salem, a month before he passed, when the cancer had made him half his once-majestic size, but his shadow was a reminder of the magnitude of the spirit within.

I’m choosing to believe that shadow isn’t just Milo’s shadow, but Salem coming along with him for his morning adventure.

Call me woowoo. But I know a beautiful poem when I see it.

First public aerial performance since before the pandemic (say that three times fast). I’d been previously saying that the strength and stamina I had before 2020 just never returned. But I’ve decided that it’s more a case of that strength and stamina still being there; I’ve just lost my confidence in its presence.

Time to be introduced to the full potential of my strength.
