The Ariel Quartet’s release of Beethoven: The complete String Quartets, Vol. II is available today through Orchid Classics! This volume features Beethoven’s middle-period quartets, the “Razumovsky” quartets, Op. 59-1, 59-2, 59-3, the “Harp” quartet, Op. 74, and “Serioso,” Op. 95. It feels surreal to have these recordings out as we continue our work on Volume III. Keep an eye out for the release of Volume III in 2026, and the complete box set in 2027!

Fall 2025 has been packed with releases! Heirloom was released with Nonesuch in mid-October, with music written and performed by Gabriel Kahane, in collaboration with Jeffrey Kahane, The Knights, and Eric Jacobsen.

Gabriel dedicated his piano concerto, Heirloom, to his father, Jeffrey Kahane. Gabriel describes the work as an “aural family scrapbook,” and allows the two worlds of vernacular folk song and classical music of his upbringing to collide as he guides his “craft as a songwriter into the more formal setting of the concert hall.”

The album also includes a new orchestral arrangement of Kahane’s song “Where Are The Arms.”

Jesse and Christopher had a fantastic time producing and engineering this recording in the Spring of 2024 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in NY, NY.

Lorelei Ensemble has released their album North Woods, a four movement work by Scott Ordway, which was commissioned by the group in 2014. Lorelei notes how rare it is for them to have kept a piece in their repertoire for 10 years, but that North Woods is unique in its ability to capture their past, while also remaining current. The piece is described as “an exploration of the edges of understanding, the boundaries between the world of the cerebral known and the mystery of the irrational.” The textured layering of voices lends itself well to representing the mysterious interplay of reality and imagination.

Jesse and Kyle recorded North Woods in August of 2021 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA, a favorite location of the Immersive Team.

Musicians of the Old Post Road just released their new album “Into The Light.” This album features rediscovered baroque chamber works by Christoph Graupner, Georg Philipp Telemann, Johannn Friedrich Fasch, and Ernest Louis. We recorded back in June of 2024 in the beautiful acoustical space of Distler Hall at Tufts University. Jesse Lewis produced this session remotely, with Christopher Moretti engineering, and Billy Sheahan assisting. We hope you enjoy listening to these recordings as much as we enjoyed working on them!

The Ariel Quartet has just released the first volume of their Beethoven String Quartets Cycle with the Orchid Classics label! This being the first part of a three-volume series, the Ariels are set to release the complete cycle of Beethoven String Quartets by 2027 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s passing. This project has been near and dear to us for the past three years, and we are honored to have been entrusted with such a significant undertaking in presenting these recordings. The Ariel Quartet’s detailed and heartfelt interpretation exemplifies their profound connection with Beethoven’s compositional voice. Beethoven: The Complete String Quartets, Volume 1 can be accessed wherever you stream!

We are excited to announce the release of The Edinburgh Rollick, an album by Ruckus and Keir GoGwilt. The album celebrates the legacy of Neil Gow, one of Scotland’s most influential Baroque folk musicians. The group showcases their unique and distinctive groove on this record of tunes recorded at Yellow Barn in March of 2024. Chris, Caroline, Shauna and Jesse all contributed to the production and post-production of this album, and we think that the teamwork is so evident in the resulting sound! On July 26th, Edwin Barker released his solo bass album, Basso Profundo, consisting of his masterfully shredding performances of J.S. Bach’s Cello Suite No. 5 in C minor, and Weinberg’s Sonata Op. 108. At the end of the 2024-2025 season, Ed will retire from his position as principal bassist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, which he has held since 1977. Here are some photos from his final concert at Tanglewood over the summer. We wish Ed the best in his final season with the BSO and his retirement!

Today, piano and electric guitar duo Grand Electric releases their debut album, "Dawn." Original compostions by Mark Dancigers and Aaron Wunsch bring together these two instruments in a refreshingly imaginative approach to modern chamber music. Mark’s guitar playing balances against Aaron’s naturally larger piano sound through an exploration of tone and effect. While there is only ever one piano, there may be two or three unique guitar gestures at any time. The result is three uniquely fractal, seemingly infinite sonic landscapes. Available on Bright Shiny Things, and on all major streaming platforms!
