Thank you everyone for keeping Kiwi in your thoughts.

Her oncologist called with the ultrasound results. There is one enlarged lymph node (unclear if it’s the previous one the surgeon wasn’t able to remove or new one) and a small nodule near the pancreas (unclear whether either represents something new or post-op changes). The encouraging news is that her oncologist feels her chemo is working—as she’s currently feeling great and otherwise we’d likely be seeing more changes on ultrasound. We’ll use this as her new baseline and repeat the ultrasound in 2 months. 🤞🏻

And the funniest part? The ultrasound staff called because Kiwi was being SO wiggly they asked if they could give a little sedation. Apparently, the old subdued Kiwi is gone and our bright and alert Kiwi is back! 😝

Now she’s officially on nap duty for the rest of the day. 💤

And we have a GOOD P**P! 💩🎉

You’d never think we’d celebrate p**p… until your dog has EPI.

After Kiwi’s pancreatic tumor surgery, she kept losing weight even though she was eating. A lot. We couldn’t figure out why.

Then came the diagnosis: Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI).

Simply put, her pancreas wasn’t making enough digestive enzymes. So even though she was eating full meals, her body couldn’t properly break down or absorb the nutrients. She was literally starving while eating.

Now every meal gets pancreatic enzymes mixed in before she eats, and today… we got something we’ve been waiting for:

💩 A well-formed p**p.

It may sound silly, but for dogs with EPI, a good p**p means the enzymes are working, nutrients are finally being absorbed, and her body is getting the fuel it needs.

It’s one small p**p for Kiwi… one giant win for her recovery. ❤️

Kiwi update:

Kiwi has been improving daily since she came home from her impromptu weekend adventures at the hospital.

While they were doing work up on her, her abdominal ultrasound showed a pancreatic nodule and an enlarged lymph node nearby that were then biopsied. Unfortunately, the reports came back resulting in abnormal cells consistent with malignancies (cancer). They call this a neuroendocrine tumor due to its location.

Per oncology, her best chances are resections of the nodule and the affected lymph node so we are on the schedule for next week. Because these are abnormal tumors, they will try to get as clear margin as they can, resulting in possible after effects of not having access to the function of the affected pancreas that will be removed. She will then be expected to stay in the hospital for 2-4 days for monitoring post-op.

Please keep our baby in your thoughts and prayers - if you have anymore to spare and hope that this is the last time she will be poked, sliced, and scanned for a long while 🙏🏻🙏🏻
