Title: Fighting for Our Family: Help Us Keep Going for Delaney & Camden,
Our Story
This is one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do. We are not beggars. We’ve always worked hard for every dollar we earn, and even now, we’re doing everything we can to keep going. But life has brought us to a place where we have no choice but to reach out and share our story.
We are a family of four
We have been together for 14 years
We have two very disabled children
I've been fighting breast cancer and survivorship
We work hard for our money
We have always worked
Never has there been lapse.
He last 1.5 years has been beyond traumatic but scary. This isn't easy but I know I've built a platform of people who have related to our lives. I'm scared to post this but I'm also posting because I'm scared. I need help.
In February 2025 our daughter Delaney developed a severe brain infection that led to multiple brain surgeries and two weeks in the hospital. Kyle worked from the hospital as much as possible, while I, Alicia, was preparing to start what I thought was my dream job — a Supervisor Medical Assistant position for Quality Improvement at a Massachusetts hospital, working remotely from home.
I had already resigned from my previous position, received my work equipment, and was set to start the Monday after we returned home. But just days before, I got a call saying they had to rescind the offer because they couldn’t legally process a W-2 for a Wisconsin resident from Massachusetts. That was a devastating setback, especially as we were still paying off medical bills from my breast cancer journey.
A few months later, in June, our son Camden — who has severe nonverbal autism — experienced a manic episode after a school visit. He began self-harming, harming me, and was in such a distressed state that I couldn’t safely manage him alone. Kyle had to come home from work to help.
The next day, Kyle told his employer he needed a few days at home to stabilize Camden and asked about possibly working remotely a couple of days a month to support me. They initially told him to take two paid weeks off. But during that time, they eliminated his position — leaving him without a job.
Since then, we’ve been working any job we can get: yard work, lawn services, brush cleanups, and home cleaning. I’ve been cleaning homes and washing windows, while Kyle has gone to every interview offered, including multiple times with the same company — only to be turned away each time.
We are still facing ongoing challenges with Camden’s mental health, while also advocating for better support at his school. The district has not been accommodating, and every day I work tirelessly to find resources for him. But even the odd jobs we rely on have become scarce.
New new - recently a position was accepted by one of us and it turned out to be a hostile working environment. There is more to the story but that's in investigation process currently. So here we are again.
Why We’re Asking for Help
We have always believed in serving our community before asking for help ourselves. And we’re still more than willing to work for what we earn. But right now, we’re in a place where the work simply isn’t there — and the expenses for two children with disabilities are overwhelming.
Your support will help us:
Keep our home
Cover essential bills
Continue medical care and therapies for Delaney and Camden
Bridge the gap while Kyle finds stable employment
From Our Hearts
This is not easy for us to write. We are humbled, embarrassed, and exhausted — but also determined to keep fighting for our kids. Any amount, no matter how small, makes a difference. And if you can’t give, we would be so grateful if you could share our story.
Thank you for standing with us in this very difficult season. We will never forget your kindness.
With love and gratitude,
Alicia & Kyle
