I found out there was a new rock shop opening the 1st of the month in Onamia, MN. So I had to go over and check it out, so I stopped in yesterday, and what a fun time this would be! I entered the shop and was immediately thrown into that Wow! mode, Andy the owner came out and greeted me, and for about 3 hours we talked about everything and anything about his shop, the minerals he's collected, all his knowledge and even some of his travels. It was such a pleasure learning about it all. There is something here for everyone, and not even the collecting aspect of it, but knowledge as well, I wanted to show some pictures of some really cool stuff like large pieces of stalagmites, or carved stone dolls that were 3000 years old, but, you have to go there and see it for yourself! (Can't give away all the fun stuff that is there)
Andy is working on a walk-in UV mineral room in the back, so check that out. He has quite the vast selection, a lot of minerals I had never seen before, and some I have, but were in their pre manipulated form which was very interesting, since I didn't know that some minerals are actually dipped in acid or other chemicals to get them in the present form we see them now.
So just a wealth of information from Andy, I learned quite a bit in the short time I was there, was such a fun experience. I highly recommend checking it out for yourselves.
Right off highway 169 just before Mil Lacs Lake on Main St in Onamia, definitely a great stop to check out.
