FLORIDA FUGITIVE WANTED IN DEADLY DRIVE-BY SHOOTING CAPTURED AFTER FOUR MONTHS ON THE RUN
A man accused of carrying out a deadly drive-by shooting in Manatee County is now in custody after spending nearly four months as a fugitive.
According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Maurice “D’Low” McCary was arrested on July 6, 2026, in Albany, Georgia. Investigators say law enforcement located him hiding underneath a bed inside a residence, where he was taken into custody without incident.
The arrest stems from a March 8, 2026 drive-by shooting at the intersection of U.S. Highway 41 and 53rd Avenue West South in Bradenton.
Investigators allege that McCary pulled his vehicle alongside another car stopped at a traffic light and fired multiple rounds into the occupied vehicle.
The shooting claimed the life of 27-year-old Jamari Murray-Barnes, while 22-year-old De’Ryan Lopez survived after suffering gunshot injuries.
Following the investigation, detectives identified McCary as the suspected shooter and obtained a warrant charging him with second-degree murder. Additional criminal charges are expected as the case proceeds.
During the months-long search, law enforcement agencies and community partners offered a $14,500 reward for information leading to McCary’s arrest. Authorities have not said whether a public tip led investigators to his location.
McCary remains in custody in Georgia and is awaiting extradition back to Manatee County, where he will face the charges against him. Investigators continue to review evidence and have not yet released a possible motive for the shooting.
This arrest is an important step toward accountability, but it is only the beginning of the judicial process. As the case moves through the courts, the victim’s loved ones continue seeking justice while the surviving victim continues recovering from the violence.
