Yesterday, I was blessed to celebrate my Sweet 16 in reverse—61 years of life! What a privilege and an honor it is to witness another year of God's faithfulness. I thank Him for His grace, mercy, and countless blessings, and I pray for continued grace, wisdom, and strength in the year ahead, all according to His perfect will.

With a Panamanian mom 🇵🇦 and African American 🇺🇸 dad, this image reflects of my childhood. Mom was the eldest of her siblings and started cooking at a young age. As an Army wife who came to the US in her mid 20s, she learned about "soul food" quickly. Her cooking captured her culture and his. I am grateful for it all!

I will always keep my mom's memories in my heart. My Sweet Magnolia's story continues as God brings special moments to my remembrance.

I was 24 when I took my first pollera photo, a year after losing her. For my 60th birthday, I had an unforgettable photo shoot at Dress Like Panama! Thanks to some modern tools, I was able to create this image of my mother in a pollera.

Today, I honor my precious Panamanian angel, my mother for her heavenly birthday. She would have celebrated her 85th today. I thank God for all she taught us about our heritage. Her love for learning was evident in her teaching, leading to a great level of appreciation for our culture.

Fun fact: She was the first in her immediate family to set foot on U.S. soil and studied countless hours in preparation for the citizenship test.

I love you, Magnolia Mercedes Bradford de Cumberbatch!
