Some parts of life don't fall apart with a bang. They just go quiet. Nobody's worried about them because nothing dramatic ever happened there — they just stopped being tended.

That's the ground Hosea 10:12 is talking about: "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you."

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆: 𝗡𝗶𝘆𝗿 (נִיר) The Hebrew word translated "fallow ground" is Niyr — ground that was once workable, once capable of growing something, but has gone hard because it's been left alone too long. Not wasteland. Neglected ground.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 Dez shares how this very podcast became her own example this month — a stretch of illness, then God bringing in new paying clients, and having to rebuild her time and capacity from scratch. Something had to give, and it was this show. A month away from a daily habit of showing up, and the ground had already gone hard — proof that fallow ground doesn't require a disaster, just neglect.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 Breaking up fallow ground starts with naming the exact area you've quietly stopped tending — not "I've been busy," but the specific thing: the marriage you stopped praying over, the finances you stopped believing could change, the friendship you let go quiet. Expect the first pass to feel uncomfortable, not peaceful — that's what breaking up hard ground is supposed to feel like. And don't skip to the harvest conversation before doing the ground work — God's order in this verse is sow, break up, then seek Him for the rain.

𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆'𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝘆𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 Write down (on actual paper) one area that's gone hard from neglect. Name it in one honest sentence. Then do one small, physical act of breaking it up today, and speak this out loud while you do it: "God, I stopped tending this. I'm not asking You to skip to the harvest. I'm asking You to help me break up what's gone hard, starting today."

Then bring it to God in prayer, declare the truth of His promises over it, take one small step of obedience, and build evidence that He is faithful when you move in faith.

Signs include: a persistent sense you're meant for more, Scripture that keeps pointing in a direction, wise counsel confirming a direction, and a holy tension between your fear and your faith. God's call often comes with both excitement and discomfort.

𝗤: 𝗜𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗸𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗼𝗱? Absolutely. Fear is not the opposite of faith — disobedience is. Most people in Scripture were afraid when God called them. The question is not whether you feel fear but whether you act in spite of it. Courage is obedience in the presence of fear.
