Music was a key factor in my success in high school, and led me to attend college as a music education major. It is my belief that music can have a deeply substantive effect not only on ones development, but also on ones life
. It forms the strongest interpersonal relationships. Through music and teaching, I can help young ones develop strong core values as well as their identities. The studio environment plays an essential role in this process, and I believe that discipline is a key factor. I believe that my students must learn the difference between right and wrong and learn to be accountable to themselves and to others. It is with this self-discipline and accountability that students learn to manage their lives. It is my belief that music can help students become aware of how high expectations and personal excellence can apply to their personal goals in life. Through discipline, and working closely with my students’ parents and Music Teachers, success and personal growth will be achieved. While it is important for my students, and studio to garner recognition for performance excellence, I believe that students in my program should continue to contribute and participate in musical activities in high school and hopefully, college. The acquired knowledge and appreciation of music must continue throughout their lives, making them a music consumer –attending concerts and recitals, supporting symphony orchestras, involving their children in public school music programs, or continuing to perform on their instruments within the community.
