Wests on the Move We are Pete & Lisa West and now we are stationary now, coming off the road after a couple of years of travel but who knows what the future holds!

We are now advocates for the RV community, not the RV industry. We are demanding change! We are Pete & Lisa and are excited to have you join our adventures in reinventing ourselves! We are new to RVing, living in our 2022 Grand Design Momentum 395MSR since June 5, 2022. Let’s Talk About the Cheerleaders in the RV Industry

Hey everyone,

I want to open up a conversation that’s been weighing on me—and I know many of you feel the same. We’ve all seen the endless issues with RV manufacturers: poor build quality, safety oversights, and a lack of accountability. Yet somehow, the industry keeps brushing it off with phrases like “rolling earthquakes” or “you just have to be handy.” That kind of gaslighting only works if we stay quiet.

What’s even more frustrating is how some people—especially influencers and brand ambassadors—continue to push a narrative that everything is fine. They talk about “innovation” and “lifestyle upgrades” while ignoring the real problems that so many of us face. And let’s be honest: some of them are likely incentivized to do so. Whether it’s free gear, paid partnerships, or exclusive access, their loyalty seems to lie more with the manufacturers than with the RV community.

I struggle with this. I struggle with the integrity of people who know what’s happening but still promote these brands. I struggle with the idea that they’re willing to mislead new RVers just to keep the money flowing. And I struggle with the fact that when we speak up, we’re often dismissed—until it happens to them.

We need to call this out. Not with hate, but with truth. We need to challenge the message they’re spreading and take back control of our own narrative as RV owners and consumers. If we don’t, the cycle continues—and more people will suffer financial loss, emotional stress, and safety risks.

So let’s speak up. Let’s be the voice of the real RV community. Let’s make sure the truth is louder than the marketing.

The RV Industry Has a Problem and We’re Not Backing Down!

To every RVer, content creator, and advocate out there: this is your call to action. Remember, this RV community helped you build your channels by following you. It is time to be a more powerful voice for change and return the favor that will help the RV community, not the RV industry. Let's see who has the courage and integrity to make a difference. Everyone is watching!

For too long, major RV manufacturers like Winnebago, Grand Design, Thor, Forest River (the worst), REV Group and others have relied on consumer emotion & fatigue, marketing manipulation, lack of federal safety and compliance regulation, and the so-called RV family atmosphere through certain, if not most brand ambassadors (more manipulation), hoping we’ll stay quiet, give up, or accept subpar quality, safety issues, and lack of accountability.

But we’re not going anywhere!

We are DONE being:
Steamrolled
Gaslighted
Manipulated
Ignored

We are no longer just frustrated individuals. We are a united force of RV owners with purchasing power, voices, platforms, and purpose and we’re using every tool available to: Expose industry failures such as manufacturer defects, greed, subpar parts like overseas steel for RV frames, poorly installed roofs, underrated suspensions and axles, wall separation, water intrusion/black mold, and the list goes on.

Demand transparency
Push for real, lasting change
Help fight for RV federal safety and compliance regulations through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. File formal safety complaints to NHTSA.

- If you're a content creator: use your voice and stop hiding
- If you're an RVer: share your story.
- Use LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram — wherever your audience is.

The more we shine a light on these issues, the harder it becomes for the industry to hide behind silence and public relations spin.

In the past 18 months, we’ve made real progress on my Grand Design RV Major Issues, Facebook site (now 6900+ members) and with the addition of the website below. But now we have momentum — and we’re going to use it.

This is no longer about one brand or one bad experience. It’s about raising the standard for an entire industry.

We’ve been part of the RV community since we went full-time in June 2022, traveling for a solid two years, moving every couple of weeks, seeing beautiful parts of the country and meeting a lot of really nice people. We disagree about whether we would do it again but in the end, we took a leap and sold it all for what we thought was going to be a simpler and more meaningful life. We spent much too much time in Elkhart for repairs and worrying about what might go wrong with our home on wheels as we traveled the country’s rugged roads. We lost two dogs (Tank and Jax) during our travels but met hundreds more that crossed our path at RV parks along the way.

We also saw the ugly side of the industry and grew disappointed in how the RV companies treated their loyal customers. We saw RV owners blindly side with the RV companies because they were told they were “family” and ignored, even bullied, other owners that had different experiences with those same companies who were just trying to share what they were going through. When we raised our voices, we were told “just live life and don’t worry about it”, “you’re just trying to destroy the company”, “you’re so negative”, “they are all rolling earthquakes”, “you need to be handy”, words that rang very hollow given the vast amount of money we, and others, spent on these RVs. We witnessed content creators not really telling it like it was unless they could get more clicks and subscribes or piggyback on the topic of the week. They were afraid to rock the boat and get on the wrong side of the RV company, perhaps because they were being compensated by them in some manner. They portrayed an easy, laid-back lifestyle that reinforced what the RV company was “selling” and stayed away from any topics that might be controversial. At least that’s how it felt to us as we moved from excited to skeptical. We know there are exceptions to this, but they are far and few between.

We know the RV industry is a business whose goal is to make as much money as possible, but it became clear that goal was at the expense of unsuspecting owners. Out of this frustration and feeling strongly that he needed to do something, Pete became an unpaid, volunteer RV consumer advocate, first for Grand Design owners but now for anybody that is having issues and needs some coaching and guidance. The industry has done a remarkable job at marketing to the individual, couple, or family that is looking for freedom. They make promises they cannot keep and refuse to focus on true quality and safety. They gaslight owners and get other owners to do the same. They try to squash opinions on social media and block those that aren’t bending a knee to the RV company. All of this has taken a toll on us, and we’ve decided to close up shop on “Wests on the Move” (FB, IG, YouTube). We'll keep our [email protected] email active.

As many of you know, we have been stationary in our RV in Colorado since the end of July 2024 and are doing just fine. Lisa is working full-time with her previous company and loving it. Pete continues working many, many hours helping RV owners in the US and Canada with Grand Design RVs and other manufacturers through their various warranty and repair issues. We are settled and will not be traveling again in our RV. We will no longer be content creators, and many could argue we never really were and that’s totally fair. Going forward, Pete will continue his advocacy work through his Facebook site "Grand Design RV Major Issues" and his website www.RVAdvocacy.com. Lisa will continue working for a great company with great people. We thank all of you who supported our travels and all those we met along the way. We continue to meet new folks and their dogs every single day and for now, that’s enough for us. Our final request is to ask the content creators to use their platforms (IG, FB, YouTube) to tell the truth for the benefit of the RV community. This truth has the potential to overhaul the industry and create federal safety regulations. Not speaking the truth plays into the industry’s hands and jeopardizes RV owners. If you aren’t a content creator, speak your truth as well. Social media can be used for good!

To the RV Community: It’s Time to Face the Truth

Too many RVers are still falling for the same tired tactics used by manufacturers across the industry. It doesn’t matter what the brand is—whether it’s a legacy name or a flashy newcomer—they’re all using the same playbook: manipulate, sell, and move on. They rely on emotional marketing, influencer partnerships, and a manufactured sense of community to keep you loyal, even when they fail to deliver.

We operate two RV consumer advocacy platforms under a different name, and we’ve seen the patterns repeat over and over again. Brinkley is just the latest example. Despite the polished image and premium pricing, we personally know of at least two recent buybacks. That’s not innovation—it’s damage control. It’s the same old story: new name, slicker branding, and a much bigger price tag.

This is not about a few bad apples or isolated incidents. This is a systemic problem in the RV industry. Manufacturers are not prioritizing your safety, your investment, or your experience—they’re prioritizing their bottom line. And the more we excuse it, the more it continues. Every time someone defends these companies without holding them accountable, more people are misled, more families are left with broken rigs, and more money is wasted.

But here’s the good news: people are starting to speak up. More RVers are sharing their stories, exposing the truth, and demanding better. The tide is turning—but we need more voices.

It’s time to stop believing the lies. Stop defending the gaslighting. Start demanding real change. That means pushing for federal safety regulations and construction standards—just like the housing and automotive industries have had for decades. The RV lifestyle shouldn’t come with this level of risk, uncertainty, and exploitation.

You deserve better. We all do. This post is not about the website itself but about the the message above.

Wake Up, America: This Is Not Normal

It’s hard to comprehend how so many RV content creators and influencers continue to post “Top 10 RV Tips,” “Our Favorite National Parks,” or “Oops, We Made a Mistake” videos—while our country is in an existential crisis.�

Our democracy is under siege:
-Constitutional rights are being eroded if not completely removed. They are trying to take us back in history to when women had no rights. Do you have a wife, sister, daughter, girlfriend? Is that what you want for them??�

-Children and families are being torn apart by masked, unidentified supposed agents of the government (Jan 6 goons, to be clear). Have you been watching the videos of people being chased down, thrown to the ground, manhandled, beat up??? Shipped off to god knows where, all at the expense of taxpayers. Are you paying attention?? Do you think this can’t happen to you or your friends and family? Wake up! Being a citizen will not protect you.�

-A president with 34 felony convictions is still being supported by elected officials and loyalists—despite the harm their policies bring to their own constituents. “Everybody dies” and “They’ll get over it” are the most recent messages from these elected officials to their constituents. The officials are ignoring the cries from their states, all to serve their dictator boss. But it's not just Trump. It's his entire administration and the power brokers behind the scenes who are enabling this corrupt takeover of the people's government.�All because they are afraid of being primaried at the urging of Trump.

-A healthcare bill threatens to strip coverage from millions of men, women, and children, enriching the wealthy at the expense of the vulnerable.�The Secretary of Health and Human Services, a non-medical person, wants to find fault in those with autism, eliminate life saving vaccines, and shut down critical health infrastructure. He will kill people!

-The Supreme Court appears to be relinquishing its role as a check on authoritarianism. The "majority" is happy to give him whatever he wants regardless of the long term impact. �

-Key institutions like the DHS, DOJ and DOD are being led by unqualified loyalists who are breaking the law every single day without repercussions, all to bow to Trump.�

-International allies are distancing themselves from the U.S., while we cozy up to dictators. Folks, there are countries that are warning their citizens about traveling to the U.S.!�

-And on and on and on…�

This is not about political parties. It’s about the survival of our democracy.��

Stop pretending everything is fine. Stop saying we just need to be happy and live our lives. If you are making YouTube money, and you won’t use your platform, algorithms be damned, to take a stand to call out the injustices that are happening in your country, you are part of the problem! If you don’t care because it’s not happening to you, you are part of the problem! Or maybe you don’t care, because you support everything that they are doing. If so, you need to start questioning your own integrity. ��

We must stop being silent to avoid “rocking the boat.” The boat is already sinking.�

Use your voice. Use your platform. Speak up. We know this is overwhelming and many of you may feel frozen, not knowing what to do. At a minimum, don't look away. Join us in getting noisy, getting uncomfortable, and doing the right thing!
