The City of is encouraging residents and local businesses to voice their concerns about the lack of evacuation safety measures in Senate Bill 79’s blanket approach to development around transit locations.

SB 79 (Wiener) would establish statewide transit-oriented development (TOD) zoning standards for properties near major transit stops (such as BART stations). The standards vary by County. In Contra Costa County developments that meet requirements would:

- Qualify for ministerial approval with no public review.
- Allow 80 units/acre and up to 55 foot tall buildings within ¼ mile of BART property.
- Allow 60 units/acre and up to 35 foot tall buildings in areas further than ¼ mile but within ½ mile of BART property. (In Lafayette, this includes the Happy Valley and Glen neighborhoods to the north of the station and Moraga Boulevard and Brook Street neighborhoods to the south.)
- Be allowed on any residential, mixed-use, or commercial property if the project complies with the tiered development criteria in the legislation.
- Be allowed to build 100% market-rate units for developments of 10 units or less, with no requirements to build below-market rate or affordable housing.

The City of Lafayette is encouraging our residents and local businesses to voice their concerns about the lack of evacuation safety measures in Senate Bill 79.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – As gas prices keep falling this summer, the big question is how low will they go?

This past week, the national average for a gallon of regular fell three cents to $3.13. You’d have to go back to 2020 for a lower national average on August 21, that day the price was $2.18. With gas prices for this day the lowest they’ve been in 5 years, some are wondering if the national average will go below $3 a gallon in the coming weeks

As gas prices keep falling the question is how low will they go? The national average for a gallon of regular fell three cents to $3.13.

At its August 26 meeting, the City Council is set to talk speed limits that could be adjusted throughout the city.

Concord Municipal Code Section 10.20.080 currently identifies a total of 91 speed zones throughout the city where speeds can be set higher than the 25 mph prima facie speed based on an E&TS. The entire city was reassessed to determine additions, modifications, and eliminations to the current 91 speed zones. Based on this review, the Transportation Division recommends four (4) speed zones be removed, six (6) speed zones be added, and 30 speed zones be modified.

“The claim that an extremely costly and environmentally destructive project is ‘sustainable’ and an ‘effective’ water strategy is false. In fact, the opposite is true,” said Delta Caucus Co-Chairs Senator Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, and Assemblywoman Lori D. Wilson , D-Suisun City. “There are far more affordable alternatives to the tunnel project that are much better for the environment, including increasing water recycling and groundwater storage. We need investments that shore up the Delta’s water supply, not ones that damage one ecosystem to benefit another. Yet the administration’s new report effectively disregards these sustainable strategies while ignoring the tunnel’s huge costs and the destruction it will cause. The simple truth is: The Delta Tunnel Project is entirely unnecessary and unaffordable.”

Leaders of the California Legislative Delta Caucus on Tuesday noted that a deeply flawed new report on California water strategies touts the Delta Tunnel Project as “sustainable” yet overlooks the massive, unaffordable costs of the project and the widespread destruction it will cause.
