Getting ready to print your comic? 🚀 The file type you choose matters more than you might think.

PDF, TIFF, PSD, AI, and JPEG can all play a role in comic book production, but they aren’t interchangeable. Some are better for creating and editing your artwork, while others are better suited for sending your finished comic to print.

📄 PDF: The standard for final, print-ready comic files
🖼️ TIFF: Great for high-resolution raster artwork
🎨 PSD: Ideal for preserving editable layers
✒️ AI: Perfect for vector artwork, logos, and lettering
📱 JPEG: Convenient for previews and sharing, but use with caution for print

And remember: choosing the right file type is only part of preparing a comic for professional printing. Resolution, bleed, safe areas, color settings, fonts, and page dimensions can all affect how your finished book turns out.

AI art is becoming harder and harder to avoid. 👀

Scrolling through social media, I’ve come across more and more AI-generated art. Some accounts openly acknowledge that their work was created with AI and made for fun, while others attempt to pass AI-generated images off as original artwork.

That raises a bigger question: How should AI be used in the comic book industry?

Like in this video and some of our other content, we’ve experimented with incorporating AI into our own creative process. We’ve used it to add elements to our original artwork for comparison posts and short animations, as well as for storyboarding and creating visual references to help communicate ideas before the final artwork is created.

But even those uses raise questions.

If AI is used to animate an original drawing, is it copying another creator’s animation style? What about using AI-generated images as references or to plan a comic book panel? Where should comic artists and creators draw the line between using AI as a creative tool and using it to replace an artist’s work?

We’re curious to hear what you think. Does AI have legitimate benefits for comic book creators, writers, artists, and animators, or does AI-generated art have no place in the creative industry?

POV: Walking up to your favorite vendor at a convention. 😎

There’s nothing like making that first stop at the booth you’ve been looking forward to all day. Whether you’re hunting for a new indie comic, original artwork, manga, collectibles, or just catching up with creators you’ve met over the years, conventions are one of the best places to discover something new and support independent artists.

Comic conventions have become a cornerstone of pop culture, bringing together fans of comics, anime, gaming, movies, cosplay, and more. Beyond the big publishers, they’re also where independent creators get to share original stories, meet readers face-to-face, and build communities around the worlds they’ve created. Some of our favorite conversations, collaborations, and memories have all started at a convention booth.

For us, that’s one of the best parts of being creators. Seeing familiar faces come back every year, introducing new readers to Viroco!, Happy Home!, and S.T.A.R., and talking comics with fellow fans is what keeps us coming back.
