SAVE this before your trip!

#1 Check the webcams. Not the weather app.

I can’t stress this enough.

Switzerland’s mountain weather changes fast, and I’ve seen mountains go from crystal clear to completely socked in by clouds in less than an hour.

Before heading to places like Schilthorn, First, Pilatus, Jungfraujoch, or Titlis, check the live webcams.

They’re way more useful than the forecast.

#2 Don’t buy full-price mountain tickets before checking Swiss Travel Pass benefits.

I almost paid full price for multiple mountain excursions before realizing the Swiss Travel Pass includes free trains, buses, boats, and discounts on many gondolas, cable cars, and mountain railways.

Depending on your itinerary, it can save a surprising amount of money.

#3 The free boat rides are not just transportation, they’re an attraction.

Some of our favorite views came from the boats on Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, both included with the Swiss Travel Pass.

#4 Don’t assume every hike requires a huge effort.

Some of the most iconic views in Switzerland are surprisingly accessible.

Bachalpsee, Oeschinensee, First Cliff Walk, Aescher Cliff House, and even parts of Stoos can be reached with a combination of gondolas, and short walks.

You don’t have to be an experienced hiker to see some of Switzerland’s best scenery.

#5 Don’t base yourself in just one region.

I see so many itineraries that spend an entire week in Lauterbrunnen. It’s beautiful, but Switzerland’s landscapes change dramatically from region to region.

The Jungfrau area has waterfalls and dramatic peaks.

Zermatt has the Matterhorn.

Appenzell has ridgelines like Saxer Lücke and Schäfler.

And places like Stoos, Brienz, and the Lake Lucerne region have a completely different feel.

If you can, spend at least a couple nights in two different regions.

SAVE for your next waterfall roadtrip

This is Trümmelbach Falls, one of the coolest places we visited in Switzerland.

The waterfalls are fed by meltwater from the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau glaciers, and over 5,000 gallons of water per second can rush through the mountain during peak season.

You take a tunnel lift up into the mountain, then follow a series of walkways, tunnels, and viewing platforms as the waterfalls twist and crash through the rock around you.

It’s loud.

Like... can’t-hear-the-person-next-to-you loud.

If you’re staying in Lauterbrunnen, it’s an easy stop and only takes about an hour or so to visit.

SAVE this for your Iceland roadtrip!

If you’re willing to go just a little out of the way, these are the waterfalls that stuck with me:

Dettifoss
The most powerful waterfall in Europe… and you feel it. Like physically. It’s loud, chaotic, and kind of intimidating in the best way. It’s further north, so most people skip it unless they’re doing the Ring Road.

Háifoss
One of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland, dropping into this massive canyon. It’s not hard to reach in summer, but the road can be rough and not always accessible in winter, which is why a lot of people miss it.

Kvernufoss
Right next to Skógafoss… and somehow way less crowded. Short, easy walk, and you can go behind it. It feels like the quieter version of one of Iceland’s most famous stops.

Nauthúsagil
This one feels like a hidden adventure. You hike through a narrow canyon, cross a small stream, and climb a little to reach the waterfall tucked inside. It’s a little wet, a little scrambly, and so worth it.

Brúarfoss
That unreal bright blue water you’ve probably seen online? It’s real. The hike is about 4 miles round trip, which keeps the crowds down, but the color alone makes it worth it.

Iceland is full of places like this.

The famous spots are famous for a reason… but some of the best experiences are the ones that take just a little extra effort to get to.

And those are usually the ones you remember the most.
