Owasso Flag Update:
An Owasso Planning Commission meeting will be held tomorrow (3/10) to discuss the creation of an official City of Owasso flag.

A spokesperson for the City of Owasso told us they have received a variety of responses since revealing the proposed flag, all of which will go before City Council this month for further discussion and possible approval. The city council plans to discuss some of the feedback at the Owasso Planning Commission Meeting.
The proposed flag includes Native American imagery inspired by the "End of the Trail" sculpture, created by James Earle Fraser in 1894, influenced by his experiences with Plains Indians. The city already uses the "End of the Trail" imagery elsewhere.
The origin of “Owasso” is debated (Osage vs. Cherokee), but it’s commonly interpreted to mean “the end” or “the turn around,” referencing where the railroad ended.
While many Owassoans have voiced positive reviews of the proposed design, created by a local youth, others have voiced concerns that input from local Native American community members has not been taken into account and the imagery represents “exhaustion and defeat rooted in historical trauma”.
