Norah Jones: Q&A | WFUV

"We all go through moments of feeling low in this time," says Norah Jones in her Q&A for FUV's "Quarantined Artists" series. Norah's gorgeous new album, 'Pick Me Up Off the Floor,' with songs of solace and introspection, was to be released in early May, but now comes out on Blue Note Records on June 12. Norah works with friends like Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and Ruby Amanfu on 'Pick Me Up Off the Floor,' but admits, "I didn’t set out to make a record. I was actually trying to avoid it." Read Norah's Quarantined Artists Q&A here and also check out her page for 'Live in the Home' streams (often Thursdays at 4pm ET).

As one of FUV's Quarantined Artists, Norah Jones is making her way through this crisis with a new album, Pick Me Up Off the Floor, that has perfectly imperfect timing.

Tidbits about the Jimi Hendrix album featured tonight in Eric Holland's House of Wax at 8:05ish -

Jimi Hendrix’s third and last album, Electric Ladyland, is regarded as one of the most ground-breaking rock albums of all time. Whether you agree is up to you of course, but the album also shocked the world, and even Jimi Hendrix himself, with the nude ladies on the cover. So, what is the story be...

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, today's "Sunday Supper" at 5 with John Platt presents songs celebrating and caring for our precious planet from artists like Neko Case and JoniMitchellcom.

The very first Earth Day took place in Philadelphia on April 22, 1970, and I was there for the music and the speeches.

The Strokes’ Eerily Prescient “The New Abnormal”

Eric Holland checking in from my Harlem Hideaway home studio where I've got some homegrown talent in the form of The Strokes and Brian Fallon on the way. Here's an excellent piece about The Strokes from The New Yorker by Amanda Petrusich who has added to her impressive number of outstanding articles about musicians. Btw, Brian Fallon will be calling me on air next Monday eve around 7 as part of our Quarantined Artists series that continues tomorrow night with Craig Finn of The Hold Steady fame scheduled to Zoom with me about 8:45 just prior to an encore presentation of his Marquee Members show at 9 recorded at Rockwood Music Hall in September. Whew - did you get all that! #LovePublicRadioMusic

All of us at WFUV miss seeing our coworkers in the office, so thanks to our general manager Chuck Singleton, most of us gathered today for a virtual coffee break. Over the course of an hour — which also included a cat named Meatball, a couple of adorable dogs, meditation tips, cool palm trees, and some backlighting issues (no one is in the witness protection program; it just looks that way) — we had the chance to talk about this strange, challenging time. The big takeaway? We are so grateful for our amazing listeners — your thoughtful and generous messages mean everything to us. Thank you.
