Someone can love you or care about you & still not be with u..
I call that.. "Loving someone from a Distance"...
I remember kicking it w this guy that I knew was crazy about me & later, doing him dirty...when he found out about it ..he called me upset saying, "Trina, that sh*t that you did was real foul. I'm not gonna front w u right now, it's gonna take me some time to get you out of my system, but I'm "NEVER" f*cking w you again because of how you did that ..You will have me in jail f*cking w you!"... & then, he hung up on me.
I was in denial back then & not ready to accept that I was hurting men cause I was hurting...(once I grew up some, I apologized, he forgave me & we are cool).. Now, this is what always stood out to me about him..He was only about 7 years older than me , but was way more mature than I was & knew himself very well.. Well enough to know.. I could "trigger" that ugly side of him by playing w his emotions. So, he saved us both & adamantly "refused" to let me pull him in any further w my bs...he stood his ground & chose to love me from a distance.
Years later ..I saw him on the Ave & introduced him to Hubby .. He shook Hubby's hand and said, "My hats off to you brother, you've got to be a hell of a man to get her to stop playing games." We all laughed & departed. I've gained so much more respect for him over the years because "he knew" I was ridiculous back then and was not ready to "act right" years before I even knew it myself. He cut his losses & knew to love me from a distance..Not bad and a rather smart man.
Just because someone isn't w you, doesn't mean they didn't love you or care about you .. They may have just faced the "Reality" that it wouldn't/couldn't end well between y'all & saved themselves (& possibly you) in the process.. If you are really honest with yourself, you'll have to admit..They were pretty smart.. to love "YOU" from a distance!
