For over two weeks, the Associated Supermarket on Melrose at 151st Street was closed. Today we learned that it is under new ownership and will open "soon" under new management and a new name.

Unfortunately today we witnessed hundreds of pounds of food and produce that was left to rot being thrown away.

The least the previous owners could have done was to donate the perishable foods to local pantries given that The Bronx is the poorest borough of the city and food insecurity plagues many residents.

This type of waste is simply unacceptable.

Six months after breaking ground, the South Bronx’s tallest building at 355 Exterior Street is already 4 stories high—rising above the Deegan and reshaping the Mott Haven skyline.

Right next door, construction on the new $35 million Lower Concourse Park is also well underway. The South Bronx Harlem River waterfront now looks more developed than Harlem across the river. But as always, we have to ask—who is this really for?
