"Hey, human moms and dads—here’s what happens to my paws when you take me out in the blazing sun ☀️ and the pavement is scorching! I sweat through my paws, and when it's this hot, I can't cool off because my paws are burning. Skipping a walk won’t hurt me—let me chill inside and take me out once the sun goes down." 🐾
If you spot someone walking their dog on hot pavement, kindly suggest they try it barefoot for the rest of the way. They might just understand how much it hurts.
Big thanks to 8 Below Husky Rescue for this important reminder 🙏.

HB 331, was introduced this week by Representative Beth Camp! The bill prohibits the sale or barter of dogs, cats, and domestic rabbits in unregulated and outdoor locations such as parking lots, roadsides, and pop-up flea markets. The bill’s intent is to curtail reckless backyard breeding by reducing opportunities for illicit pet sales to occur. A similar measure has been passed as a local ordinance in 11 jurisdictions to date. HB 331 does not impact shelter/rescue adoptions, responsible breeders who comply with laws, and farm animals. NO ACTION needed at this time but please stay tuned for updates! To sign up for Action Alerts via email: www.gapetcoalition.org

A special thank you is extended to the following lawmakers for their sponsorship of HB 331: State Representatives Beth Camp, Leesa Hagan, Joseph Gullett, Mike Cameron, Kimberly New, and Sharon Cooper.

Appreciation is also extended to Professor Lisa Milot of the UGA School of Law for subject matter expertise and assistance with drafting the bill and local ordinances.

NOTE: HB 331 is one part of a multi-prong approach to address pet overproduction in Georgia. State and federal bills often involve compromise to achieve agreement between different interest groups.
