Hello and welcome, new readers!

I shared that I opened X's account at 17. I picked a few stocks for her and they turned out to be good. I haven't bought any stocks in her account for a year now because it's her money, so I don't want to decide for her anymore. From 05/2025 to now, she has earned $2780.23. Even without buying new stocks, her account is growing from earning interest and dividends. She could leave her account alone forever, and it'll just keep growing, as long as the prices do not drop or she sells before they drop.

What's important here is the Cash Reserves highlighted in yellow. A Roth IRA cash balance acts kind of like a high-yield savings. However, you won't get taxed for it, when you withdraw at retirement. Meanwhile, a high-yield savings with interest earned is considered income. The interest earned just keeps earning, untaxed. At some point, you can withdraw what you've contributed and let the earned interest keep earning interest.

This is X. She's class of 2026 with a BS in IT. She's my financial trial baby, and also my siblings' baby. We are 15 years apart. From a very early age, she has always been disciplined, independent, and driven. She woke herself up for school and got ready with no instructions. She's not banking (RIGHT NOW), but she had about $5k saved when she graduated high school. I had nothing saved at 18 (because I knew nothing about finances).

I opened her Roth IRA at 17. Because she was underage, I was her guardian; we/she still hasn't switched her account over to her yet. While she was a college student working part time (joyfully from buying and reselling e-commerce), I funded her Roth every year at the $7k limit so she wouldn't miss out on those years. She has reimbursed me and her account is all hers now. We’ve added her to our credit lines and she has a high credit score. She understands when it makes sense to spend and save. For example, her bedding stayed with her since freshman year.

Coincidentally, I also bought my house the first year she went to college. She spent a few summers and winters there. She borrowed my Camry with almost bald independent woman wheels for work and prayed she’ll make it home/alive everyday 🤣. Now that she’s graduating, I also happened to be closing my house at the same time. God’s plan or coincidence? 🤔🧐

I know it was very hard to get here 🥲❤️. You have achieved and overcome one of the hardest parts in life to prepare you for even harder things after graduation. You can take on anything now.

I'm proud of this milestone in your life, X. You're ready to take on life. You have a great credit score, decent savings, post grad job and a growing Roth IRA. You’re qualified to buy your first home 😝 before a car.

Please open Roth IRA if your kids are working. If they're a baby/not working yet, open a 529.

Hello. This is Eleanor. I’ll be mixing in some baby content on this page. I didn’t want to start a new page for her. THIS PAGE was made for her/my kids.

My 529 for Eleanor, my baby girl, is through Fidelity.

I don't have to make decisions of what to invest in, if you read the fine prints. I've deposited $1000 so far and the account has earned $70.

"There is no IRS annual limit on 529 contributions, but you can deposit up to $19,000 per year ($38,000 for married couples) per beneficiary without needing to file a gift tax return. You can "superfund" a plan with up to $95,000 ($190,000 married) in one year by accelerating 5 years of gifts." - Fidelity

In the future when you are ready to roll the account into a roth, you can only rollover funds that has been deposited for 5+ years.
-You can transfer up to $35,000 lifetime from a 529 plan into a Roth IRA for the beneficiary.
-I plan to only fund ~$35k, which is $1500/year for the next 15 years, and move the max amount each year after she's over 15+, while Eleanor also saves her $$.

As always, do your own research before making decisions. I just choose to share mine with you all.

This was pretty cool in my search this morning about 529 plans. I was wondering if my husband and I can have separate 529 plans for our daughter and we can. Why not do a joint? I don't like to tell people what to do.

You do not have to be a MN resident to use this. Other states have their own 529 plans for residential benefits, which idk the details and is up to you to do additional research.

I go back to work on Monday. I updated my budget sheet to see if I could be unemployed for a year or two.

Unfortunately, I can't-ish. My minimum living cost is $1500, so an $18k net salary. It's not that I want to be unemployed; I want to find income that'll fit my timeline so I can be a mom for as long as possible. I will get there. I know it.

When I started buying stocks, these were recommended by every single stock guru. I should've listened to them. VOO is at an all time high, but you already know, it could go up even more.

I know this account looks like I lost money, but that cash balance of $1,189.05 is from dividends of TSLY and CONY. Once it reaches $3k, the stock will pay itself.

Today was spent cleaning the final details of my house to get it ready for the market. I'm so glad that item is finally checked off my todo list. The delay/excuse was because I got married and pregnant.

It has been 4 months since I gave birth and it was my goal to sell the house so I didn't have an extra mortgage. I didn't want to rent it out because the risk of a renter was more than paying the mortgage. Hindsight, it was probably the same cost but it’s better to not have to deal with a renter at this point of my life. My baby has my full attention.

The past few visits to take care of my house and get things done out of town were possible because of my mother in law (MIL), known as baby’s Puj. I'm so glad my baby isn't picky and I'm beyond grateful her grandparents love her more than I can imagine. The first time (or the only times) I had a deep sleep was when her Puj took care of her. These photos were taken by her and she looooves taking photos of baby too.

As one door closes soon, another opens. I’m just one MN State exam from getting my realtor license in MN. I’m excited for that and potentially other opportunities. The ideas are endless; ask my husband lol.

I’ve been enjoying my time here mostly with pickleball, lol. Check out the reels on my personal page. I love pb and being a content creator for it as well. Who knows if I am capturing a future Hmong PB pro. My job here has also been great. I will go back on May 18th to see how things are; if I can balance work and mom life. There’s a couple major life events happening with my personal family that I’m excited for; baby sister X’s graduation.

I feel like there were so many fires (fights? Lmfaoo) that was just burning and they’re finally getting put out.

Tonight (and other times too), I’m grateful for my husband + baby, family, in laws, my broker ExP Realtor + mentor, meeting new people mainly from the PB community lol, my job/boss, MN paid leave, our little home (+ paid off cars :P that’s insured biannually and registered lol), and so much more. There is so much to be grateful for and I believe that’s how I always have “more.” My cup is full because that’s what I choose to see. Don’t worry, some days, it’s empty too.

Once this house sells, I’m going to find something else to occupy its’ spot in my head lol. Thanks for being here. I hope things are going well where you are. If you’re going through something, feel free to send me a message and I’d love to read it. Sometimes we just need to write it to get it off our minds.

I've been a couponer for over 7 years now. I'm not as active on my couponing page, but once in a while, I share a useful deal. Walgreens and Kohl's have been my favorite stores and I love it that there are 3+ in my area now that I live in MN. I coupon for my home, my parents', and my in-laws.

Lately, I've been getting back at it because baby formula is taking up most of my expenses. The only store that has a discount code for it is Target's 15% off registry that can only be used twice.

Give my deal page a follow if you want deals. Maybe I'll be active again.

I can't shop at places that don't give rewards back or allow discount codes. That's why Walgreens is my new go to store. Sure, their items are marked a bit more, but after promos, coupons, and codes, my dollar is stretched the most there.
