"This past June, Stockton partners won a $10.8 million Transformative Climate Communities grant to make the investments needed to improve quality-of-life...these improvements are foundational and transformational at the same time: streetscape improvements, solar installations on over 100 single-family homes and several multi-family housing complexes, energy and water efficiency upgrades for more than 500 households, planting over 1,500 trees and providing weekly healthy produce boxes for 50 families." @Greenlining

Community care begins and ends with #INVESTING. And #TransformativeClimateCommunities is certainly putting their money where their mouth is 🤑:

Counting on Biden, M.T.A. Shifts From Doomsday Budget to a Wishful One

"But as Joseph R. Biden Jr. prepares to move into the White House, Congress in recent days seemed to be edging closer to reaching a compromise on a federal aid package that would likely provide $4 billion to the M.T.A., allowing the agency to avoid, for now, imposing its doomsday plan." - The New York Times

While the MTA looks to congress for federal aid (as per usual...), grassroots coalitions in NY like Straphangers & Riders Alliance are still fighting tirelessly for the rights and access to public transportation for workers and commuters alike.

Over 30 members of Congress support equal funding for public transit and highways in a resolution led by Reps. García, Pressley, and Jeffries - Transportation For America

"For almost four decades, Congress has severely underfunded public transportation, leaving millions of Americans reliant on deteriorating transit systems with infrequent, inconvenient, and unreliable service. This particularly hurts people of color, who make up 60 percent of all transit riders, and over one million rural households that rely on transit. " - Jenna Fortunati / Transportation for America

‘Existential Peril’: Mass Transit Faces Huge Service Cuts Across U.S.

"For months, transit officials around the country have pleaded for help from the federal government, but with no new lifeline forthcoming and many systems facing December deadlines to balance their budgets, agencies have started to outline doomsday service plans that would take effect next year…

In New York, overnight subway service has been suspended since May. In Los Angeles, bus service has been slashed nearly 30 percent and rail service has also been cut. And the Bay Area Rapid Transit rail system in San Francisco has ended late night service and pushed wait times for trains from 15 to 30 minutes." - The New York Times
