Snowday

Snowday A boutique writing & production studio.
Consider us a production-oriented creative studio—a team of writers and directors, co-creators and friends. We create powerful ideas for film and video, or bring those already in-motion to the screen. We call ourselves “boutique” which is a fancy way of saying “we’re small”, and we like to think we're “agile” which is a shorter way of saying “we're quick to react like a caffeinated cat”. The needs of modern brands and audiences are changing crazy-fast, so we wake up wide-eyed, alert and ready to take them on every day. When we look at the work, we look at the possibilities. We prioritize the development of original projects to give every idea a chance. And we solve problems every day with questions of “what if…” and “how can we…” because work is more fun that way; it really is.

Friends — pitch in to help protect New York!

Governor Andrew Cuomo & his daughter Mariah are asking New Yorkers to create a PSA encouraging people to wear masks in public — and we need your help! In this Google Form, we’ve outlined how you can submit photos of yourself wearing a mask. Once you’ve done that, we challenge you to pass the link along to 3 other New Yorkers.

The deadline is fast-approaching, so submit today! #NewYorkTough

Did you know that American research universities played a key role in the invention of the smartphone, plastic, and polio vaccine? We sure didn’t, but after diving into a brief from our friends at The Association of American Universities, we were ready to spread the word. We took an epic story of historical and technological transformation and boiled it all down to a minute and thirty seconds. Special thanks to FDR.

University of Michigan: "Always Leading"

After 200 years, University of Michigan was ready for a PSA that broke the mold. Swerving away from the traditional PSA model, we dove deep into our alma mater’s history in search of its guiding ideal: public service. After building the creative direction from the ground up, we sifted through years of photographic archives that capture the spirit of the modern campus. The spot, tied together by the voices of notable Wolverines from every field, aired on national television and was shared online for audiences of millions.

In this difficult time, we’re thankful for the safety and well-being of our team, friends, and families. We’re also thankful to be able to keep doing what we love with our partners: working hand-in-hand together to share meaningful stories. http://snowday.studio/

Donald Byrd on Confronting the Uncomfortable

Last year, we partnered with the folks at the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation to explore what drives the work of extraordinary dance, jazz and theater artists. Director Chris Duncan & the team traveled across the country to film with the recipients of the 2019 Doris Duke Artist Award.

In this first installment, master choreographer Donald Byrd rehearses with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater as he speaks to dance’s power to engage people around society’s most difficult and unsettling issues.

Chromebook accessibility tools for distance learning

Students around the world are now learning from home. This adjustment is a new challenge for students, educators, parents, and guardians alike.

Earlier this year, we partnered with the Google for Education team and three incredible teachers to make a 12-part video series that highlights a variety of accessibility features that can be used to customize students’ learning experiences. Head to the Google Blog to learn more about accessibility tools for distance learning during COVID-19.

Gratitude to the entire team!

Use built-in Chromebook accessibility tools to support all students during distance learning at home during COVID-19.

To most western eyes, the written Chinese language is simply an aesthetic — beautiful and iconic, but otherwise obscured by cultural and linguistic distance. As speakers (and enthusiasts) of the Chinese language, Snowday's animation team And-Orange Motion Design wanted to highlight the unique way that Chinese characters contain meaning. They set out to offer viewers the thrill of taking a first step into the world of the Chinese language, using the visual qualities of 汉字 as a tool.

We're super excited to share &Orange's newest work, Instant Chinese!

New Holland Brewing Co.: 'The Legend of The First Open Mic'

When New Holland Brewing Co. introduced us to the poets at The Drunken Retort, we were thrilled. They're expert storytellers (it's what they do every day, after all), so we all focused on narrowing down the many stories we could share together. We landed on the legend of their very first open mic.

It’s awesome when we get to collaborate with such great partners throughout the filming process. Here’s to the stories that become legends! #ShareALegend

'Unfolding,' our friend Matt Shlian’s new monograph to be published by Volume is "a celebration of a humble material, on the edge of its existence, elevated to timeless form and possibility." Matt’s work ethic and incredible focus inspired us day after day when we all shared a studio in Michigan. We were honored when he asked us to be a part of his book launch by collaborating on a film, and are not the least bit surprised that the book's campaign was fully funded in record time!

For nontraditional students who don't have the time or means to travel to a university campus, degrees that require hands-on time in a science lab — like biology — have been just out of reach. Until now.

Last year, our team traveled west to learn more about how Google for Education is partnering with Labster and Arizona State University to use virtual reality to bring the sciences to students. We followed Leigh, Lincoln, and Ashley as they used VR technology to experience lab environments from anywhere — and took crucial steps toward achieving their dreams.
