SLH020R: Adam Holmes – Compartments Remixes
Available July 3rd
Following the “mesmerizing” (The Road to Sound), “hypnotic” (Lucid Culture) ambient-electronic debut album Compartments last fall, percussionist-composer Adam Holmes takes his solo project deeper into abstract realms.
In Compartments Remixes, four artists in the emerging niche of hybridized, synthesis-heavy composition – Phong Tran, Cassie Wieland, Brooks Frederickson, and Adam Cuthbert – were commissioned personally by Holmes and mastered by Grammy award-winning engineer Mike Tierney, each leave their unique stamps on each of the original tracks.
The resultant 21-minute EP transforms Holmes’ “immaculately finessed” (Musical America) recording stems into a kaleidoscopic offering, where flower pot strikes become juke-inflected beats, simple reverb becomes an ecosystem of dancing spectral melodies, and polyrhythmic woodblock lines disintegrate into intense, swirling storms.
Bonus Ableton Live Pack includes Max4Live instruments and sample packs designed by Brooks Frederickson and Adam Cuthbert which were used in the production of their remixes.
All proceeds of Compartments Remixes will be split 50/50 to Black Lives Matter of Greater New York (www.blacklivesmattergreaterny.com) and the Audre Lorde Project for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non Conforming People of Color (www.alp.org).
