The current president telling reporters like Kaitlan Collins to smile, be quiet, etc, brings to mind this powerful Liana Finck cartoon from the now-sold-out no 16, The Kindness Issue.

In this issue, we explain the difference between being kind & being nice—& tell our young girl readers (ages 5-12) they are not obligated to be nice to bullies.

Certainly adult reporters are never obligated to smile. 🙃

➡️ “MOST OF THE TIME being kind
and being nice mean almost the
same thing. After all, both usually
involve using good manners, sharing,
and being friendly. But sometimes,
you may find that people tell you
to “be nice,” when what they really
mean is “be agreeable.” That’s the
tricky thing about “nice.” Its definition
can change depending on who’s
using the word and how. Kindness,
however, is constant, because it
comes from the heart. So, remember
this: You don’t always have to be
“nice” but always try to be kind.“

Some favorite panels & a quick flip-through of “Who is Wonder Woman?” the feature comic in our latest issue of , drawn w great wit & style by

Turns out the beloved Wonder Woman character has a surprisingly complicated origin story, involving an ancient Scythian warrior tribe, Homer (the Greek poet, not the guy from The Simpsons), the US Suffragists, and a somewhat frustrated academic. The important thing for our young readers to take away? The idea, or mythology, of an amazing woman w “the speed of Mercury and the strength of Hercules” lives on in them today, to inspire women, girls, and people everywhere.

In every issue of Kazoo we include a feature True Tales comic about and extraordinary woman in history. This was our first ever about a character in history, but for our Wonder Issue, it just fit.

Kazoo no 40, The Wonder Issue, is on stands now. To get this issue delivered to your door, subscribe today.

“Wonder isn’t something you have to wait for. It lives inside you already. It’s in the way you move, the way you dream, the way you keep going even when things feel hard. Just being yourself, fully and bravely, is more than enough.” -Misty Copeland, for Kazoo magazine’s Wonder Issue.

Artist .stentzel takes ordinary objects & turns them into extraordinary art. She was classically trained as a painter at a strict Soviet art school, but realized art must come from the heart: “There’s so much we can’t control in our lives, but we can control how we look at the world.” Thrilled she took some time to teach our young readers that sometimes finding joy just depends on how you look at things.
