Canal Creatures takes its name from the Gowanus Canal, which runs next to CCP's Brooklyn office. The Gowanus is considered to be one of the most polluted bodies of water in the world, and was recently listed as a Superfund cleanup site by the EPA. CCP's location on the Gowanus waterfront serves as a daily reminder of the importance of clean water and sustainable living. S.O.S. - Save Our Studio!

Friends of Eastern Effects,

We are writing to ask for your help. After years of hard work and significant financial investment, we find ourselves in danger of losing our main stage at 270 Nevins Street through eminent domain. The City of New York is proposing to take our site for use as a temporary construction staging location as they build two combined sewage overflow (CSO) tanks next door to clean up the Gowanus Canal. The loss of the soundstage at 270 Nevins Street would be devastating to our business. You can read more about our situation here: http://easterneffects.com/home/sos/

With your support, we can convince our government officials to use one of the surrounding, vacant and more fitting properties for the temporary construction staging. Using one of these alternative sites would not close small businesses or eliminate jobs, and would allow us to continue to thrive in Gowanus.
