May we suggest Maya Vitkova's Sundance sensation, VIKTORIA?

"Viktoria is absurd, often funny, surreal, and beautifully shot." - Julie Felsenthal, VOGUE

THE HOLE (dir. Tsai Ming-liang, Taiwan/France) - Official US trailer

Missed "the best movie of 2020--and the most 2020 movie of the year" (SF Chronicle critic Bob Strauss via Tweet)?

Never fear! You can still catch it on VOD prior to (and following, of course) the Dec. 8 DVD release by visiting our website (bigworldpictures.org).

Set just prior to the start of the 21st century, this vaguely futuristic story follows two residents of a quickly crumbling building who refuse to leave their homes…

Love these guys!

If you're in or around Detroit, stop by for a drive-in show--or even if you're not in the area, you can support The Film Lab by renting a "virtual cinema" screening from them.

🥳 today we’re celebrating our 1-year anniversary and what a crazy year it’s been! We welcomed you all to over 300 screenings of the best in classic and contemporary film from 32 different countries, slung over 5000 drinks, and popped 1000 orders of 🍿. We brought the house down at @hamtramckmusicfest with @shadow_show.detroit & @followthevvisionss; hosted karaoke nights with bbs @itslouramo, @stefchura & @shantasy_island; toasted @motownrecords with Hamtramck heroes; discussed women in film with @wdetdetroit; podcasted with @detroitstrange and the IT FOLLOWS crew (@rebfive); raised money for @plannedparenthood with a killer VDay party; and celebrated PARASITE’s Oscar glory.

And then COVID-19 ground the party to a halt. We pivoted to virtual cinema and our pop-up parking lot screenings to keep you safe and entertained and you all showed up!

None of this would have been possible without the love and support of everyone in our little community. Thank you so much for making The Film Lab such a fun, vibrant, and welcoming place. Next year we celebrate in person!

Chinese director Jia Zhang-ke has never made it big in America. In a way, that’s understandable. He makes art films that focus on everyday Chinese citizens, many of whom are overwhelmed by the rapid changes in society and even displaced. His films are a far cry from such epic historical tales as 1...

“The best movie of 2020 - and the most 2020 movie of the year - was made in 1998. #TsaiMingliang's #TheHole hits #westcoast virtual cinemas today, and it's all brilliantly staged, existential slapstick about life during a very wet pandemic. Did I mention it's a musical too?”
