Zongo Junction - "The Van That Got Away" (Official Video)

Earlier today, the Brooklyn-based Afrobeat collective Zongo Junction shared the video to its latest single "The Van That Got Away."

Catch the action in the video below, and in-person: tonight at Mercury Lounge, where they'll be joined by fellow horn-centric hybridists The Hot 8 Brass Band. We'll have more on Zongo Junction this summer, in the upcoming issue of HASH Magazine.

"The Van That Got Away" depicts a few days in the life of Pavel, a used car salesman, and the relationship he has with his work and the people in his life. H...

Kelli Scarr - The Moon

NYC,

If there's a show to catch this weekend it's Joe's Pub Sunday night bill featuring Kelli Scarr. The Brooklyn singer-songwriter (who stunned the audience at our live video session last month) is expecting a new EP later this month.

Scarr is convening her core band but will also be joined onstage by openers Mother Falcon, the 18-piece folk orchestra from Austin, TX. that made waves earlier this year at SXSW.

In honor of the "full snow moon" tonight I'm releasing a new song, "The Moon". I'll be featuring a new song on every full m...

Maybe get out to buy some new indie releases, but at the very least seize on the opportunity to spend some time together with the people you care about.

We're celebrating Record Store Day tomorrow at Flatbush Farm in Brooklyn.

We'll forgive you for not feeling festive after this sad, draining week. Even now, as Friday draws to a close amid an unending chain of aerial footage over Boston neighborhoods, the week seems unwi...

Q/A The Milk Carton Kids

“The Ash & Clay” by The Milk Carton Kids is out today.

Our Q/A with Joey Ryan probes the tug of war the acoustic folk duo faces when it comes to writing, gigging, and ordering lunch.

Interview on page 54: http://hashmagazine.com/

"...if there’s something that one or the other of us just can’t abide then we invoke the veto card. And that’s with songwriting, that’s with business decisions, that’s with lunch decisions, everything." — Joey Ryan, Issue 6 p56

Read our review on page 66:

Rafiq Bhatia Featured in HASH Magazine, at Glasslands Tonight

Rafiq Bhatia plays Glasslands Gallery this evening. This will be his band's first appearance since last month's Winter Jazzfest, where they were joined by rapper High Priest to reprise a cut from "Strata," one of the two records Bhatia released last fall on his label Rest Assured.

Our profile explores the formative experiences that led Bhatia here. It begins on page 32:

“There’s a commitment to a sort of hyper-realistic view of music. We’re interested in things that are really intricately put together, almost
like a ship in a bottle.” —Rafiq Bhatia, Issue 6 p38
