Local Hero #10: Anna Grotzky Anna Grotzky is a 16-year resident of Carroll Gardens who has made a big impact with her Rainbow Connection Map. In the wake of the initial Coronavirus outbreak, children's drawings of rainbows slowly started appearing on Brooklyn windows. One day, on the local BuyNothing page, a neighbor made the ask of “the gift of time." She hoped that someone could come up with a way to track all of these beautiful rainbows. Newly in quarantine, Anna thought to herself, “I have more than enough time! And Google Maps would be the perfect tool for tracking!” It wasn’t long before the Rainbow Connection Map was born and spread worldwide. As of today, Anna has mapped nearly 3,200 rainbows and the project has drawn almost 350k views. Here's a link to the Rainbow Connection Map: http://bit.ly/2TW6a7E And here's a little bit more about Anna: As a yoga instructor and life coach, it's her purpose to bring joy and happiness into people's lives - likely explaining why she took on this project! Nature is where she finds herself most at home; any time she spends hiking, gardening or just generally being outdoors is what makes her heart sing. Many thanks to you, Anna, for documenting something so hopeful and uplifting! #mylocalheroes is a series of posts about people who hold down the fort and make lives go better with little fanfare and a lot of heart and smarts. Hey Neighbors & Friends, How are you handling this #StayHome initiative? Are you staying busy? Are you making plans for life after this #Coronavirus #Pandemic? I know this isn't easy to stay positive through these #COVID19 times, but the last thing you should do is stop living. Read that book you've wanted to read. Write those poems or that book you wanted to write. Paint that masterpiece you've always wanted to paint. Take an online class. Get connected with the people on here. Call people you haven't spoken to in years and check in on them. If you have kids, turn off the video game and have family game night. Board games help us connect again. There is so much we can do. I haven't done this many push-ups in years. And while you are at it, communicate some positivity with the community. There is already so much negativity being shoved down our throats by the media. Let's find something to be grateful for. Let's add some good vibes to these tough and trying times. I heard that the best thing about the dark is that it allows the light to shine brighter. We are in a dark place right now. The world is scared. Let your light shine bright. Be the light the world needs right now. I"m here if you want to talk. Feel free to connect with me via messenger.
