New Release:

“Hervé Tullet’s Art of Play”

By Hervé Tullet, Sophie van der Linden, et al.

The definitive book for adults from an iconoclast of the children's book world.
Colorful and curious. Experimental and improvisational. Each of Hervé Tullet's creations, whether the bestselling children's book Press Here or the internationally traveling Ideal Exhibition, breaks the boundaries of art. Tullet is a renowned author and artist who urges people of any age to create playfully and joyfully. In this deluxe volume—part career-spanning monograph, part artist's manifesto—he shares his origins, his inspirations, and his methods alongside illustrations, sketches, fine art, and photographs of his installations. “Hervé Tullet's Art of Play” features commentary from curator Aaron Ott and children's literature expert Leonard S. Marcus. It's sure to become a favorite among parents, teachers, and librarians as well as art lovers and creatives. With this book, as with all his work, Hervé Tullet invites you to join him on an exuberant journey of creativity.

New release: Jacqueline Humphries: jHΩ1:)

Edited by Rachel Churner
Published by Gregory R. Miller & Co.

A maverick figure in New York’s downtown scene, Humphries has revitalized the language of abstract painting over a career that has covered four decades and multiple transformations in style. Published on the occasion of Jacqueline Humphries’ exhibition at the Wexner Center for the Arts, this major catalog surveys the artist’s work from the past seven years, including dozens of new paintings and her largest multipanel installations to date.
The exhibition and its accompanying catalog highlight the importance of digital communications and online culture in Humphries's ever-changing practice. Incorporating the QWERTY keyboard as a means of generating abstract forms, the artist's recent paintings integrate emoticons, emojis, CAPTCHAs and ASCII text as layers of mark-making in dense and vivid works. Other featured works explore the visual language of corporate logos; black light paintings presented in darkened spaces; a group of protest paintings that subtly channel political dissent; and thickly painted renderings of white noise, in which digital content receives viscerally material application. Across each body of work, Humphries reaffirms her ongoing commitment to abstract painting, while bringing a seemingly traditional form into dialogue with the issues and interfaces that shape contemporary life.

New release: “Americans in Paris: Artists Working in Postwar France, 1946-1962” by Lynn Gumpert, Debra Bricker Balken, et al.

Americans in Paris is the first substantial, scholarly overview of the American creative community living in postwar Paris following World War II. Paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photos, and films produced during these years are featured alongside illuminating essays and never-before-published interviews with Americans and French artists, critics, and dealers. Proposing Paris as decisive for the development of postwar American art, this groundbreaking volume investigates the academies where many of these artists studied, the spaces where their work was exhibited, the aesthetic discourses that animated their conversations, their interactions with European artists, and the overarching issue of what it meant to be an American abroad.

New release:
“On the One Hand/On the Other Hand” by R.O. Blechman

Presented as a handsome double-sided book, “On the One Hand” includes a portfolio of 17 of Blechman's graphically sublime covers for the fabled Story magazine. “On the Other Hand” includes a collection of essays that offer his trenchant insights, both playful and profound, on the state of our culture today; including his personal perspective on film, theater, literature, history, politics, social change, and his fellow cartoonists and illustrators. Blechman shares his hard-earned insights and personal anecdotes on persisting your way to success, on growing older but not surrendering youth, and on the constraints that every artist from caveman days to the present must overcome. “On The One Hand/On The Other Hand” collects the best of Blechman's writing and drawing from across the breadth of his nearly 70-year career as cartoonist, commentator, and iconoclast.

New release:
“Just Enough Design: Reflections on the Japanese Philosophy of Hodo-hodo” by Taku Satoh

The Japanese phrase "hodo-hodo" originates in ancient times. When contemporary designer Taku Satoh applies it to his work, it means "just enough." Hodo-hodo design deliberately holds back, leaving room for individuals to engage with objects according to their unique sensibilities. In the midst of a consumerist age, Satoh has built an illustrious design career around this philosophy, creating iconic work in fashion, food, and architecture. His ideas speak not just to professional designers, but to anyone who wishes to move more thoughtfully through the world. Within this slim but powerful volume, Satoh explains his philosophy through tangible examples—from the aesthetic of a timeworn ramen shop to a rooftop playground inspired by onomatopoeia. Urging readers to appreciate everyday objects and spaces and to question the lure of convenience, he delivers a message rooted in the past yet perfectly suited to our times.

New release: “Rudolph de Harak Graphic Designer: Rational Simplicity” by Richard Poulin

Rudolph de Harak (1924–2002) is one of the most influential graphic designers of the mid-twentieth century. This beautifully produced, comprehensive monograph is devoted to this fascinating and significant figure and provides an in-depth account of de Harak’s life and work.

From his early years in Los Angeles to his success as a design consultant and educator in New York City, de Harak brought inventiveness to everything he designed, from record covers to book jackets, from furniture to exhibitions. De Harak’s work was influenced by early modernist masters, such as Will Burtin, Gyo¨rgy Kepes, Alvin Lustig, and Max Bill, as well as by the rigor, simplicity, and rationalism of the International Style, Abstract Expressionism, Op Art, and Pop Art.

Organized chronologically into six chapters that cover de Harak’s life and career, each supported by sidebars on the designers, architects, and art movements that have influenced his work, “Rudolph de Harak Graphic Designer” documents de Harak’s pioneering and prolific fifty-year career in graphic, experiential, industrial, and furniture design for a wide range of clients, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cummins engine company, McGraw Hill publishing, and many others.

Three of my works have been received Honorable Mention for this year's 3x3 Illustration Professional Show No 18 🎉 The first piece is the illustration series I created for the UK magazine MollieMakes, which has been shortlisted at Communication Arts and longlisted in the World Illustration Awards. The second piece is the sketchbook cover I created for ana tomy's campaign "The Art Culturalist", and the last piece is an illustration project that I worked on with my friend Sylvia Haliman, which has also been shortlisted at Communication Arts and selected as the winner in the Creative Quarterly 62.

My works will appear in the Annual No 18 printed book and the online gallery.

I'm honored and humbled to be part of this amazing collection of talented artists. Thank you so much to all the judges for selecting my work!
3x3 Magazine

First I would like to thank you for picking my art for honorable mention.
However, since there was a price of admission I would think that would have included a printed copy of the certificate. It was not. It was sent instead as a PDF.
Really? I printed version was too expensive for you?

Then I took at good long look at the certificate... blinking my eyes in disbelief... with my jaw agape.
In my head I kept thinking... why did they send me a big tan image with their logo blazoned across the top so large. Wow, that's some logo.
Then, squinting I noticed that there was something gray-ish below this rather garish display. I kept clicking the "command button and the + button" till the gray-ish image came into fuzzy view.
OH... that was my name and what I won the "Honorable Mention" for... "Illustration"

I hardly knew it was there.

WTF Creative Quarterly. Do you really think any one of us would want to display this certificate and have our friends and family squinting to see our name and wondering why we bothered entering the show if this were the result.

Seriously, you need to revamp that certificate for all the entrants who won this.
We deserve better from you.
Honored is an understatement! Affinity Creative Group was awarded seven awards for our brand & packaging redesign for Anchorage Distillery.

Thank you, GD USA Magazine, Creative Quarterly, Mobius Awards, John Barleycorn Awards, and World Brand Design Society, for celebrating this adventurous design!

The revolutionary redesign for Anchorage Distillery truly captures the spirit of Alaska. Authentic, all-natural, and handcrafted — right on the bottle.
Loe Lee's personal series "Hope in NYC" received Runner-Up in Creative Quarterly 62 at the end of 2020! Congratulations ✨
