At this time of crisis the New York City Department of Education has cut the Arts budget to 0 and schools are scrambling to put in place dance education without funding for dance residencies or dance teachers. In addition, dance residencies are not allowed in schools due to safety concerns. I believe this is a time when my outreach program can respond and offer remote quality dance education without negotiating the logistics of available space and safety concerns.

EECOP is offering a limited number of schools remote/virtual subsidized dance residencies for 2020/2021 school year funded by individuals.

These residencies include Hip Hop, Soca, and Ballet and Creative Movement.

Erica Essner Performance Inc is a registered vendor for the DOE.

The San Francisco International Arts Festival is an exciting 11 day program featuring 65 ensembles and individual performing artists from the Bay Area and 12 different countries taking place at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture from May 25-June 4. It is a program that celebrates diversity, multiculturalism, curiosity and the value of otherness—a commitment that advocates for experiencing the cultural expressions of other societies and civilizations as a way to help understand and embrace them. Click here http://bit.ly/SFIAFchron to see the schedule of events.

Opening night will feature multiple performances including the spectacular GuGu Drum Group from China. Also headlining is the award winning play from the Meyerhold Theatre Center in Moscow with the US Premiere of the English language version of One Day We Will All Be Happy. They will be joined by a revolutionary young contemporary choreographer from China named Gu Jiani with the west coast premiere of her hauntingly beautiful piece Right and Left. Gu Jiani’s work
is part of a dance program that contemplates a Pirouette with Asia and includes JJBro, Scarabe and Victor Fung Dance Company from South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong respectively.

From France the US debut of Stereoptik who perform an ingenious shadow puppet play Dark Circus with the ominous tagline, “Come for the Show, Stay for the Woe!” Scottish based Estonian choreographer Eve Mutso will make her US debut with Unknown alongside the Bay Area’s Alyce Finwall Dance Theater. There will also be the US debut of Tabea Martin from Switzerland.

#TBT It was Mother’s Day 2007 when Aunt Barbara called:

“Christopher has a photo in the The New York Times and it’s a BIG one!”

This was my very first time having an image printed in the Times. Needless to say, I carried it under my arm for three days and showed absolutely EVERYONE I met. =)
