"Lapis Lazuli", the first single from Dennis Mitcheltree's upcoming album, Seeing Red, is available to stream/download on all platforms today - August 21, 2026

Saxophonist/composer Dennis Mitcheltree’s new recording, his eighth as a leader, Seeing Red, is boiling over with strong emotions, expressed by strong players whose playing is fueled by the breadth of their life experience. In our current sociopolitical world, we see red everywhere: the angry faces on our social feed, on matters of political opinion, alerts of danger, tribal headgear, and those who believe they are the only true color of blooded Americans. Red is perceived as the color of destruction, which can be a precursor to transformation, just ask Shiva. However, existence within a limited color range is not the full experience, it’s myopic and constraining, and ultimately unnatural and unfulfilling. Conversely, “music is not monochromatic. It is capable of utilizing all the colors of the visible and invisible spectrum, with infinite sonic colors representing collaboration, cooperation, understanding and empathy, all available on our prodigious musical palette, giving us the potential to illuminate how we are bound together as one,” explained Mitcheltree.

DRUMMER/COMPOSER JARED SCHONIG’S BIG BAND CAPTURED LIVE AT DIZZY’S CLUB/J@LC ON NEW RELEASE FROM ANZIC RECORDS, Available August 28, 2026

***Album Release Celebration-Monday, August 24 @ Dizzy’s Club/J@LC NYC***

"Recorded at Dizzy’s Club in New York City, Live at Dizzy’s places Schonig at the center of a group built on long-standing relationships and hard-earned musical trust. The ensemble is filled with collaborators who have shared stages, tours, and years of musical conversation with him, giving the performance a sense of familiarity that never slips into comfort. Instead, it becomes the fuel—an environment where risk feels natural, and the band can play with abandon while still landing every detail." – Occhi Magazine

“. . . a prime candidate for album of the year . . .”– Ron Netsky, Rochester City Paper

“His two new albums – Two Takes Vol. 1: Quintet and Two Takes Vol. 2: Big Band – decisively put him forward as a bandleader . . .”– Nate Chinen, WBGO FM https://conta.cc/3UqnKlH https://conta.cc/3UqnKlH

First-Call Trombonist/Composer/Educator SAM BLAKESLEE Presents Exhilarating New Album: NEW BLOOD

New Blood will be released on Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records (BJUR 083) on September 25, 2026

"The award-winning trombonist and composer Sam Blakeslee has become one of those rare scene-shapers on the NYC circuit: a musician whose presence raises the standard in the room, and whose writing keeps the conversation moving . . . If “New Blood” is any indication, Sam Blakeslee is not just contributing to the modern big band scene—he’s helping to shape its future. His music is provocative without being harsh, sophisticated without feeling sterile, and designed to allow soloists to shine within a larger context." - Jonathan Blackman, Occhi Magazine

Award-Winning Indo-Canadian Drummer/Percussionist/Composer Agneya uses rhythm to transcend boundaries, spark dialogue, and connect global communities on his debut album - AGNEYA

Available on Agneya Music (ACM 001) on September 18, 2026

***Agneya Drops Third Single From His Debut Album: “Keiko” Is Out Today - August 10, 2026***

“Keiko” is built on a simple but beautiful idea: that rhythm can connect traditions long before words ever could. A traditional Malinké folk melody, sung by teenagers as they chase and tease one another, is reimagined through the expanding and contracting patterns of a South Indian Carnatic korvai. Rather than presenting a fusion of traditions, Agneya reveals their shared sense of play, movement, and communal rhythm. Light on its feet yet intricately crafted, "Keiko" reminds us that rhythm has always travelled more freely than borders, carrying stories, games, and human connection across generations and continents. https://conta.cc/3RTCsRv

OUT NOW! Conrad Herwig Celebrates Chick Corea’s Legacy with New Album “The Latin Side of Chick Corea”

"Corea’s music has always welcomed rhythmic adventure. While the honoree’s melodies remain instantly recognizable, Herwig and co-arranger Bill O’Connell, surround them with vibrant Afro-Caribbean rhythms, inventive harmonies and room for the musicians to stretch, making familiar material sound surprisingly new . . . The album’s ten compositions span every stage of Corea’s remarkable career and receive thoughtful, imaginative treatment from a stellar group . . ." - Pierre Giroux, The New York City Jazz Record

"You feel the love for Chick, for jazz, for humanity throughout."- Stephen Graham, Marlbank

"While some tribute albums can feel a little like museum pieces, perhaps by being a tad too reverential, Conrad Herwig’s The Latin Side of Chick Corea avoids that trap by doing exactly what Chick Corea himself spent a lifetime encouraging: taking great compositions somewhere unexpected. Rather than recreating familiar classics note-for-note, Herwig filters Corea’s music through the vibrant pulse of Afro-Cuban and Caribbean traditions, revealing just how naturally those worlds have always belonged together. Corea’s own catalogue was deeply rooted in Latin rhythms throughout his career, and that certainly helps the music on this very enjoyable album feel like something of a joyous homecoming." - Mike Gates, UKVibe https://conta.cc/4zhLcSr
