Singer-songwriter Juliet Garrett has created a beautifully-directed music video for her track “Carry On” that is apropos for what is going on in the world presently.

Whether you are in self-quarantine, forced to WFH, battling a cold—or worse, “Carry On” is a necessary respite for the feelings that you might be feeling.

They’ve worked with the likes of Icona Pop, The Rolling Stones and Adam Lambert, and got on our radar after releasing a sick comic-inspired music video for one of their tracks.

So pleased to share this new tune from up-and-coming band Citrus Maxima.

Here at Left Bank Magazine International Women’s Day is every day.

There is one month out of the entire year dedicated to women, and while I think we should have more months dedicated, or, you know, the whole year, I’ll instead take to the internet to showcase how much I love being a woman running a sick ass music/art/skate magazine.

Spotlight on: Tummyache

Happy Women’s Month everyone on the Left Bank. This month I’m going to try in earnest to feature/profile self-identifying women who are making waves in their artistic spaces (film, fine art, music, writing, etc).

To kick off this 30-day project, we are starting with Tummyache, the indie rock project created by songwriter/producer Soren Bryce.

I first saw Soren Bryce live at a going away show in Brooklyn. I was there to cheer on my friends Animal Show and was beyond astounded at the sheer talent that Bryce has.

From her stage presence to the strength in her vocals, I could tell that Soren Bryce was one to watch. Within a few days of that show, she moved out of New York City (don’t we all?), chopped off her hair, and I thought that was the last I would be seeing her.

Slowcoaching’s new single “Between the Walls” is an upbeat tune with early indie rock influences that address gender norms.

The Melbourne-based band led by Dean Valentino challenges masculine culture in their chorus, “Grow a pair, be a guy,” a phrase that men often hear when growing up. Valentino addresses these ignorant phrases head on.

Up-and-coming artist Nicotine Black is like a French Barry White in the making with his new tune “Twenty Six.”

Admittedly, we have a french bias (see: our name) but that is wholly beside the point. He sings about being ready to give it all for someone and them having no clue—or being too unavailable to realize it. Which, let’s be honest, we’ve all experienced at some point.

Boy Scouts released the music video for their track “Get Well Soon” last summer, and since then they’ve released some other really killer tunes, but this post is about me and my wallowing in self-pity and DayQuil.

The process of growing up and actualizing into the person that you’ve wanted to be is just that, a process, and as a 30-something year old adult who is going back to get my second Masters degree and switch gears a bit, I’m here to say that you don’t have to have all of the answers—literally no one has them and if they do, they paid a really expensive psychic, hypnotist, or therapist.

I can’t offer any of those skills or direction, but what I can give you is a playlist to make the art of growing up a bit more palatable.
