Cheers to Saturday!
Not just one but two salad wedges: iceberg and radicchio, topped with a tangy sour creme sauce and lemon-tarragon marinated chicken. *yummy*!
Happy New Year! Let us all make the best of it. Wishing you great health and many beautiful, memorable moments. xo
Create your own Ban Mi from the left-over turkey. They are the BEST. π
I promised some more turkey left-over dishes... this was turkey ramen for breakfast, Saturday after Thanksgiving. Looking at it, I'd like to have it again. Now. :D
PS - It's easy to create a delish broth by putting the carcass in a large pot together with veggies like carrots, onions, celery, and a bay leaf or two. Your favorite herbs, salt, pepper, let it simmer for two hours, done!
The next morning, we had a simple breakfast with a bit of the turkey, the left over greens, a soft-boiled egg, fresh guacamole and a grapefruit half. πβ¨
How was YOUR Thanksgiving? I hope you had a fantastic time with your family and/or friends. This year, again, it was just the two of us, Oliver and me, who cocked an eleven pounds turkey. Stay tuned for the many "left over" ideas. *yummy*
I love to quickly put something together like today's lunch:
Red kale from my CSA box, from yesterday's dinner a cup of leftover rice, a little sesame oil, 3 tbs of fish sauce, a small onion, 1 tomato, 2 eggs... some Thai basil, voilaΓ ! Ready. And mega yummy too :)
Growing two types of tomatoes, none of the ones I initially wanted but some of the little honeycomb tomatoes were ripe and the little Caprese salad I made was absolutely delicious!
Helloooooo Summer!
Happy day for KJ Charles' finished trilogy, the Will Darling Adventures. I loved SUBTLE BLOOD to pieces!

LOVE, MURDER, AND A NOT-SO-SUBTLE YET IMMENSELY SATISFYING CONCLUSION TO A BRILLIANT ROMANTIC TRILOGY
Fans of KJ Charles' brilliant writing and storytelling don't need any persuading to pick up book number three in the adventures of pragmatic and big-hearted ex-soldier now bookstore owner Will Darling and the enigmatic aristocrat Kim Secretan. We fans have long read -and adored- SLIPPERY CREATURES (book one) and THE SUGARED GAME (book two) as soon as we could get our hands on them. We were eagerly and patiently awaiting the part that would provide closure; after all, a real-life pandemic broke out between the release of book two and KJ Charles' writing of book three, which undoubtedly impacted the story.
At one point, midway through SUBTLE BLOOD, Kim tries to analyze Will's feelings stating: "If you live one day at a time, you can't fear the future or brood about the past." This deeply resonated with me, and my admiration goes out to KJ Charles, who managed to blend out all the real-world scary stuff and create with this trilogy, perhaps her finest work to date.
Those who are new to this author, please don't just jump into SUBTLE BLOOD but start from the beginning. Yes, some go to dinner only for dessert but trust me, you will be enjoying the entire course because⦠it's just so well prepared and delicious! While you'll fall in love with Will and Kim and Phoebe and Maisie from the spot, you do want to follow them along, stick with them through every twist and turn.
SUBTLE BLOOD is the perfect ending to a fantastic story, told over three installments. What a nail-biting but also utterly entertaining and romantic ride, full of promise and hope.
