Among Jews of all stripes, a Bar Mitzvah is a momentous occasion. But beyond being just another milestone in life, it is imbued with deep spiritual purpose and meaning.

In the early years of the Rebbe's leadership, young Bar Mitzvah boys would be granted a private audience with the Rebbe in preparation for their special day. The Rebbe would often quiz the budding Bar Mitzvah boys, before blessing them and imparting lessons to guide them in their new responsibilities as young Jewish men.

Out of Many, One

The Rebbe on the American Elections.

As citizens of the United States head out to vote, we share a presentation of the Rebbe's talks and statements regarding the American presidential election.

Somewhat unusually for a Chassidic leader, the Rebbe would publicly address the current events of his time during his Farbrengens. He also warmly received many politicians who came seeking his counsel and blessing.

While he touched on a wide range of issues related to the United States, the Rebbe would often return to a fundamental principle of it's founding: the importance of uniting the entire nation around a common goal. Or as the country's motto declares, "E pluribus unum - Out of many, one."

Living with the Times | Excerpt

The Rebbe's repeated call for every Jew to study the daily portions of Torah, Psalms and Tanya.

Watch the full video at https://go.jem.tv/ChitasStudy

Chitas is a Torah study program which combines a daily portion Chumash (the five books of Moses), Tehillim (Psalms), and Tanya (the seminal work of Chasidic teachings by Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the first Rebbe of Chabad).

The study cycle was instituted and promoted by the Previous Rebbe of Chabad, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson. His son-in-law and successor, the Rebbe, repeatedly urged his followers to adopt the custom, pointing to it as an auspicious way to elicit blessings from Above.

Today, thousands of Jews take part in the program, which is known simply as Chitas - an acronym made up of the first letter of the Hebrew names of the holy books.

Lasting Impact | Excerpt

Guests from abroad remember High Holidays with the Rebbe during the 1970s.

Celebrating the month of Tishrei, many Chassidim would come to spend the High Holidays and Sukkos with the Rebbe.

The Rebbe showed special attention to his guests, urging them to utilize their time wisely and dedicate themselves to Torah study, prayer, performance of Mitzvos and charity.

It is a custom that has its roots in the pilgrimage that Jews made to the Holy Temple in Jerusalem; a time and opportunity to draw inspiration and spiritual energy to be gradually unpacked throughout the year.

Cantor Tzvi Hersh Tsatskis recalls singing in Russian during the Rebbe’s distribution of wine following Simchas Torah, 5749-1988

In 1988 (5749), during the distribution of wine following the holiday of Simchas Torah, the Rebbe asked Cantor Tzvi Hersh Tsatskis to lead the Chassidim in a Jewish song from his homeland of Russia. The synagogue was bursting with joy as the Rebbe enthusiastically encouraged the Chassidim to sing and whistle along with him.

Upon the conclusion of Jewish holidays, the Rebbe would stand for hours as thousands came to receive a small cup of wine and some words of blessing.

The wine upon which the Grace After Meals is recited is referred to as the “Kos Shel Bracha – Cup of Blessing.” As the Rebbe would distribute wine from his cup following the Havdalah ceremony, the crowd would join together in joyous melody as the Rebbe energetically encouraged the singing.

Watch Cantor Tzvi Hersh Tsatskis reminisce about the highlights of leading the crowd in song in the Rebbe’s presence.

In 1975 (5736), Israeli Photographer Levi Yitzchak Freidin spent the month of Tishrei with the Rebbe for the first time. Though he had initially referred to 770 as “a madhouse,” Freidin so loved his experience that he returned every Tishrei for nearly twenty years thereafter.

In later years, Freidin also recorded moving film of his Tishrei experiences, which he edited, narrated, and screened at yeshivos around Israel.

It is thanks to him that we are able to relive Tishrei with the Rebbe in such an all-encompassing way. To this day, his photo and video collections continue to inspire.

Here, we present but a small section of his footage from the eve on Yom Kippur in 1980 (5741).

The 6th of Tishrei marks the Yahrzeit of the Rebbe's mother, Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson.

Rebbetzin Chana followed her husband after he was sentenced to harsh exile by the Soviet authorities. After his untimely passing, she was reunited once again with her son, who went on to become the Rebbe of Chabad.

The Rebbe was incredibly careful about showing great honor to his mother, visiting her every single day. In her diaries, she described these visits as the inspiration that filled her entire day.

In 1974, the Rebbe launched the Mezuzah Campaign - an international effort to arm every Jewish home with kosher Mezuzahs. The Rebbe explained that besides for fulfilling a Biblical commandment, hanging a kosher Mezuzah on your doorposts brings extra protection - physical and spiritual - to your home.

The month of Elul is a particularly auspicious time to check the Mezuzahs again, to bring additional merit and blessings in the days leading up to the Days of Judgement and the High Holidays.

A Good Name

A Good Name

Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz visits the Rebbe.

Does he ever listen?

Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda (JJ) Hecht was a stalwart of Chabad in America and patriarch of a large family of Chabad rabbis and Jewish activists. Today, the 15th of Av, marks his 30th Yahrzeit.

In 1945, the Previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson, appointed a young Rabbi Hecht as director of the recently established National Committee for Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE) - a position he held until his passing in 1990.

He was known to share a remarkably close relationship with the Rebbe, whom he served in numerous capacities. Rabbi Hecht was the Rebbe’s official translator and famously narrated the Rebbe's Farbrengens live on air. In addition to establishing the first Chabad overnight children’s camp, Camp Emunah, he directed many special children's rallies and parades which the Rebbe personally attended and participated in. He could often be seen at the Rebbe's side.

He held the distinct honor of representing the Rebbe in meetings with many dignitaries all around the world.

In the wake of his passing in 1990, Rabbi Hecht merited for the Rebbe to speak about his Jewish activism as the Rebbe encouraged Chassidim to learn from his life.

May his Neshama have an Aliyah and may his memory be for a blessing.

Moshiach has arrived, www.ra-el.org
slimane bouhafs 01-07-2019 - village zerkoune, commune bousselam set bouts. Algeria. Tel Tunisia: 00216 29 663 533. Dear ; I have the honor, hereby, to solicit your high kindness to kindly grant me time to study my asylum application and to accept it. Indeed I am an Algerian Christian and I was arrested and sentenced in the course of 2016 to three years in prison because of publications on the social network facebook that have been judged as undermining the Muslim religion. I would like to bring to your attention, ma'am, that I have already suffered several threats and harassments since my conversion to Christianity in 1998. I was also physically attacked by people in my village and I had to move for many years to protect my family. Between July 2016 and March 2018, I was imprisoned because of my religious beliefs and my case made headlines in national and international newspapers. Public opinion in Algeria particularly, in Africa in general, in Europe and even in Canada and the USA, protested for the right of worship and expression of Christians. National and international NGOs like the Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights (LADDH), Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Amnesty International have also claimed my release (you can find on the internet all the articles and movement and actions that have been carried out for my cause). During my time in jail, I received a lot of letters of support that helped me especially on a psychological level. After my release in March 2018, things became more difficult for me because I feel threatened everywhere, even my pay was withdrawn for no reason. I subsequently decided to leave the country to seek asylum in a foreign country, I came to Tunisia it's been almost a year, I made my asylum application in Tunisia and my file has has been accepted and my request too, and as the social and economic situation of this country is not up to par and my security is threatened, UNHCR Tunis has started a procedure for other foreign countries, in Europe or to USA . UNHCR Tunis has submitted my application for several countries. It is for all these reasons that I will like an asylum with the authorities of your country, because I consider that my situation is very serious. Looking forward to your reply, please accept, Sir / Madam, my respectful greetings
Shalom Shalom Shalom Shalom. Amen. Yahweh.
