Recently I looked at my style and realized it didn’t reflect how I felt on the inside. When I’m feeling this way, I like to ask myself a few questions:
• do I feel like this because of social media?
• do I feel like this because of my body?
• do I feel like this because of my closet?
• do I feel like this because I’m stressed?
I think it helps to get to the root cause of the emotion. Because sometimes when I scroll on social too much I actually don’t hate my style, I’m just falling into a comparison trap (we were never meant to see so many other people!!). Or when I feel like I have nothing to wear, I actually just haven’t spent time playing around in my closet in forever.
I asked myself these questions recently and realized it was none of the above (this time at least). I actually *did* feel like my style wasn’t showing up with how cool & creative I feel I am.
So, I spent some time last weekend playing around in my closet, exploring Pinterest and coming up with some fun outfits I could wear. And you know what? I felt fun & like me and also more confident. People are work noticed. I also felt more compelled to continue investing in this area of my life because it’s important to me.
You don’t have to throw out your entire closet and buy all new if you want to reinvent yourself. If you’re also a millennial struggling to feel confident in your style you 1) don’t have to stay stuck there and 2) you also don’t have to adopt every trend to feel cool again.
There is a middle ground where you can be you, you just have to take the time to find it.
