We’re down to the final 72 hours of our Kickstarter campaign… and we’re still about $8,000 away from hitting our stretch goal, which will allow us to strike a new 35mm print of PUMPING IRON II: THE WOMEN that we’ll tour theatrically. Here’s our (very lightly updated) poster for Rosa von Praunheim’s masterpiece TALLY BROWN, NEW YORK, which opens a weeklong run at IFC Center in New York this Friday. Tickets now on sale!⁣ Dates in other cities to come.

Both a loving portrait of a larger-than-life personality and a vivid record of New York’s 1970s downtown demimonde, this captivating documentary follows Tally Brown—cabaret chanteuse, underground film star, and a staple of Andy Warhol’s Factory—as she takes filmmaker Rosa von Praunheim on a tour through the grit and glamour of the city that made her. Capturing Brown’s mesmerizing performances (including her breathtaking bilingual cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes”) as well as her social world among fellow q***r cult icons like Holly Woodlawn, Divine, and Taylor Mead, TALLY BROWN, NEW YORK is an essential snapshot of a scene that has passed into legend that’s been recently restored by the Deutsche Kinemathek.

A report on the New York premiere of PUMPING IRON II: THE WOMEN from FLEX, with appearances by George Plimpton, Roy and Cynthia Scheider, Tony Pearson, Gloria Steinham, and… Tony Danza?⁣

We’re now just about a WEEK OUT from the end of our Kickstarter fundraising campaign — we hit the main goal early, so we’re now trying to raise an additional $10,000 so that we can strike a brand new 35mm print of PUMPING IRON II: THE WOMEN. Maybe Tony Danza can come out to our re-premiere? Find out more at the link in our bio.

WE DID IT. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who gave and helped to get the word out about our campaign to raise funds for our upcoming 4K restorations of PUMPING IRON II: THE WOMEN, SCREAMPLAY, SPARKLE’S TAVERN, and OFF THE WALL. It still feels kind of surreal that we were able to hit the goal in a little under three weeks.⁣

Because we’ve got this extra time, we’d like to try for a stretch goal: if we can get the total over $75,000 by the end of the funding period, we’ll create a new 35mm print of our 4K restoration of PUMPING IRON II: THE WOMEN that we’ll tour theatrically.  ⁣

The 35mm print of the film that has played the most over the past decade has been an early answer print without the final credits or proper soundtrack — with your help, we’ll be able to make a brand new one, put together a roadshow for it, and also make it available for any theater wanting to screen the film both during our initial rerelease and in the future. ⁣

Thank you again, truly, for your support.

We’re 20 days into our campaign and we now have less than $5,000 to go until we reach our goal. The funds we raise through this Kickstarter will allow us to restore and rerelease four rare — and, in two cases, near-lost or completely unavailable — q***r and independent films that we love and think you will, too. Find out more at the link in our bio.

Long available only in cropped and muddy transfers sourced from video masters produced in the 80s, PUMPING IRON II: THE WOMEN is a film just waiting to be more widely discovered by new audiences. Our new 4K restoration — sourced from the original Super 16 camera negatives and Dolby soundtrack — will do just that.⁣

We’re now less than $10,000 away from hitting our Kickstarter fundraising goal, which will allow us to finish restoring PUMPING IRON II and three other rare and largely long-unseen q***r and independent films from the 1970s and 80s. The kinds of films we know that people want to see but haven’t been able to because of their unavailability. Help us rescue these films from obscurity by chipping in to our campaign and getting the word out — there’s less than two weeks left. The link is in our bio.

“A must-see for all those interested in performance and the cultural history of New York in the ‘70s; the bewigged Miss Brown, with false eyelashes capable of sending her short, round body aloft, is the most memorable raconteur and cabaret artist you’ll hear all year.” - Melissa Anderson, The Village Voice⁣
