Wow. its been a hell of a rollercoaster these last seven years. This month marks Sermon 3 Recordings seven year anniversary. The platform has been such a conduit for the rawest, realest, underappreciated but most deserving people on the planet. And so many more that are connecting, need to be connected in. I love yall and its been an honor to hold space.

Society often glamorizes drug culture. Movies and music about block boys and kingpins from people outside lookin in. More readily you’ll hear hustlers tell our perspectives about the what and why’s of street culture and trust it isn’t a monolith. But no one every prioritizes those using. Those funding the empires. The consequences of their addiction they’re doing their best to live thru. Their humanity… their life that deserves just as much attention, love and community as the rest of us — to bust this matrix like all of us are tryin to do.

People who are addicted aren’t fu**in crackheads. They’re someone with just as much value and potential as the next person… someone’s child, best friend, lover, big homie… someone who deserves their days in the sun, fully liberated from the ecosystem tempting us to sacrifice each other for survival.

I fount this page “All Time Media” on YouTube, and he’s interviewing those addicted, homeless on the street, those without IGs and TikTok and not invited to panel discussions. Those whose backs street culture exists off of. Which pop culture eats off of. And culture rules the world. So in my opinion those who stories and perspectives you’re about to have the honor to listen to are the real guardians of the galaxy.

This feels unreal. Legendary Chicago ghetto house DJ and one of the original architects of the sound, DJ Deeon, has passed away.

DJ Deeon put on for Chicago and was one of the original fathers of ghetto house - a sound that would take the world by storm and inspire so many others in house and electronic music perioddd

Deeon was also a friend of mine’s and we got to put out two of his records thru Sermon 3 Recordings. He was always kool as a feather to work with and his energy was A1 in person.

Slavery’s not over.

Think about it, Juneteenth we’re celebrating that slave owners literally did not tell Blacks that they had been freed for two and years AFTER the Emancipation Proclamation, and Juneteenth is in honor of the day news finally reached Blacks that we HAD BEEN FREE. If anything we should tiiiight that whites never told us we were free and instead chose to work, r**e and keep us like cattle knowingly for another two and years in silence 🤫 —- Union soldiers had to literally come into Galveston, Texas to tell us we had been free from
slavery for years and force whites to stop keeping us as their property.

Racists refused to concede, so when they could hide our ‘freedom no longer’ they created Black Codes — easy reasons to lock us up to keep slavery going.

Y’all cause Slavery’s not over. It still exist literally “as punishment for crimes” in America.

Black Codes opened to floodgate to prison culture and there are more Blacks locked up now via prison than all of slavery combined.

Slavery never ended… it just morphed into prison and our expectations of one another… it isn’t as easily recognizable but is just as diabolical — and the fallout is just as damaging.
