Did you know this is the McDavitt Building in Downtown Brownsville? 🏙️

Built in 1927 by local produce grower William Early McDavitt, it was designed by architect Stanley Walters Bliss in a beautiful Spanish Colonial Revival style. In the 1940s, the Sweeney family bought it and ran the Brownsville Coca-Cola Bottling Company here.

Today, it’s home to new businesses as CrossHatch BTX, but it still keeps its history alive, now marked as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark by the Texas Historical Commission.

Valley Star Market started with a trailer full of oranges back in 2011. As customers began asking for more fruits and products, the small family business continued to grow.

Around that time, the owner’s mother began having health problems. Wanting to help her, she started learning about natural remedies and herbal medicine. Customers noticed a positive change in her mom and soon began asking about natural products for themselves.

What started with fruit slowly grew into herbs, supplements, incense, natural products, and much more. In 2016, they opened their current location and later changed the name from Valley Star Fruits & More to Valley Star Market.

Today, after 14 years, it remains a true family business, thankful for the Brownsville community that has supported them along the way. ❤️

There’s a possibility that Dutch Bros Coffee might be moving forward with its first location in the area. While details are still unclear, it seems likely that the site could be situated next to the new Sprouts Farmers Market currently under construction.

we visited Ernie's Hamburger Stand a true Southmost gem that has been serving the community for over 50 years. We had the chance to meet Mr. Ernie himself, who shared the story behind this family business.

It all started in 1972 when his parents began selling raspas. Over the years the menu grew, and today you can find burgers, corn dogs, the famous Captain Burger, raspas with ice cream, and their popular banana splits.

A real piece of Brownsville history.

🎉 HIDDEN GEM IN BROWNSVILLE‼️ CELEBRATING 26 YEARS! 💎

A hidden gem in Brownsville, Sunglass Forum Brownsville, owned by Jorge and Verónica Rodríguez, has been part of our community since 2000. What started when Jorge moved back from Austin to be close to family became a business built on love, hard work, and faith.

With the support of his brothers Jesse, Gilbert, Mike, and his sister Linda, the family helped grow Sunglass Forum from one small store into something truly special.

They opened their first store in Brownsville in 2000, followed by a second location at South Padre Island in 2001, inside the old Sunchase Mall. In 2016, they expanded to Laredo, where they turned two stores inside Mall del Norte into success stories.

Over the years, they’ve faced challenges like the 2008 recession and COVID-19, but stayed strong and kept all their employees on payroll.

Today, 26 years later, Sunglass Forum continues to be a locally owned family business and part of the Brownsville community. ❤️
