Brownwood police officer shot multiple times, shooter deceased
From the Brownwood Police Department
7/08/25

On Monday, July 7, 2025, at approximately 11:50pm, officers with the Brownwood Police Department received a report of shots fired in the 2000blk of 7th St. The initial caller reported that her husband was in the front yard of the residence, out of control and shooting a gun. Reports indicated that 2 to 3 shots were fired.

The suspect, 59yr old Holly Edward Oliver, left the 7th St residence in his pickup and was believed to be traveling to an address on 1st St.

Just after midnight, July 8, 2025, the pickup was located by officers in the 300blk of Corrigan St. Officers parked at the end of the street and prepared to approach the pickup on foot. However, before approaching, the pickup began traveling down the road toward the two parked police vehicles. The pickup pulled up alongside a parked patrol vehicle and Mr Oliver opened fire into the driver’s side window with what appeared to be an automatic rifle. Several shots were fired into the unattended patrol vehicles driver’s side window and door.

Officers took cover then returned fire, shooting toward Mr Oliver as he continued on the road toward Norwood St. On Norwood St, Mr Oliver drove his pickup toward approaching officers and fired bullets at them as officers were exiting their patrol vehicles.

Mr Oliver continued to seek out officers and shoot at them, exchanging gunfire with several officers as he drove in reverse until his pickup came to a stop in the intersection of Norwood and Vincent St. Officers later approached the vehicle and Mr Oliver was removed from the driver’s seat and life saving measures were initiated until medics with the Brownwood Fire Department and AMR ambulance service arrived. He was transported to Hendricks- Brownwood and later pronounced deceased.

A Brownwood Police Officer was shot multiple times as Mr Oliver drove past his patrol vehicle. He was transported to the Hendricks-Brownwood Emergency Room where he is listed in good condition, awaiting surgery.

This is an active investigation into the attempted murder of Brownwood Police Officers. The local Texas Rangers office is on scene leading the investigation. Our sincere appreciation is extended to officers who assisted in this chaotic scene. Assistance was provided by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Early Police Department and Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

No other information will be given at this time.

DONATION DRIVE at the Brown County Law Enforcement Center located at 1050 W Commerce St in Brownwood
Sunday, July 6th, from 11-5

We are working on a donation drive to provide relief for the flood stricken communities to the south. Everybody knows by now what’s happened and now it’s our job to get together and help our neighbors. We’re not sure exactly where we’re going, but it will either be the Kerrville or the Comfort area. They are saying they are good on clothes, the big items are non-perishable food items (snacks, crackers, etc), bottled water, back packs, bug spray, flashlights, batteries, work gloves, personal hygiene items (deodorant, toothpaste, dude wipes, etc) baby items such as diapers and baby wipes, and clean up items like bleach, trash bags, shovels, items like that. Like I said, no clothes or blankets, they are needing very specific items like the ones listed. We are going down with donations, equipment, and will spend a few days helping them get back on their feet.
