The Keeper Who Never Left — St. Simons Lighthouse, GA
In 1880, lighthouse keeper Frederick Osborne was shot and killed inside the keeper’s residence. His assistant claimed self-defense. The death is documented. What came after… is what people still refuse to talk about after dark.
For over a century, staff and visitors say the same things:
Heavy boot steps echoing up the iron spiral stairs when no one is there.
Doors unlatching and swinging open on windless nights.
A cold, unseen presence inside the keeper’s house—as if someone is still on duty.
One of the most chilling accounts came from a keeper’s wife. When the lighthouse mechanism jammed during a storm, she shouted for help. She later said a man appeared—dressed in an old keeper’s uniform—worked the gears until the light turned again… then vanished. She swore it was Frederick Osborne.
If you’ve ever walked those grounds at night, you know the feeling—the ocean wind goes quiet, the air gets heavy, and then you hear it… footsteps on the stairs above you.
Some say the lighthouse still has a keeper.
Not living. But not gone.
Have you ever seen or heard anything there?
