Phil Sims Newsletter:
Hello everyone,
Apologies for the late issue. Internet bug this week! Arrrgh!
We've had a wild week so far, private performance for Stan Lipsey (Buffalo News publisher) and his buddy Warren Buffet, a great gig last night at the Roycroft with Heather Holden (thanks to Lisa Hassleback for sitting in!), an out of town gig tonight in Bradford, PA with Ben Baia's great band, and finally, something you can all take in, if you are so inclined...
Sunday, March 24 the Katy MIner Quartet (plus one!) at the Elmwood Lounge (at Utica) 5:30 to 8:30PM ($5 cover charge for the musicians)
Katy Miner, vocals, Phil Sims, trombone and piano, Jack Kulp, bass, Matt Felski, drums, and guest artist, Warren Stirtzinger, guitar
Katy is an incredible jazz vocalist who covers a wide range of styles. Matt joins us in place of Tom Kasperek who is performing at the Telethon all weekend, and we bring Warren back to Katy's group reprising his performance with Katy earlier this winter.
BTW, Mike Milkie has been upgrading his food menu, hearing lots of good "feed"-back. Please come by and give a listen and partake.
In the coming months, we'll be continuing our very popular guest artist series. We feature three great sax players starting in April.
April 14 world famous baritone saxophonist, Bruce Johnstone
May 12 equally world travelled tenor man, Dave Schiavone
June 9 back from world travels, tenor legend, Phil Dire
Working on getting three great tenor sax men on stage at the same time, soon, as well. Details as I get them.
It's always so nice to see so many friends (and make new ones!) at our events. The Elmwood, being our permanent Sunday home, is an extra special place to greet you and perform for you. We thank you for joining us previously, and we all look forward to seeing you this Sunday if you are able to come by. Have a great first weekend of Spring, and we'll see you soon.
