NO LICENSE OF ANY KIND REQUIRED FOR VIRGINIA’S FREE FISHING DAYS THIS WEEKEND 🎣

Free Fishing Days are June 5–7, 2026, and it’s time to get hooked on fishing in Virginia. During Free Fishing Days, no fishing license of any kind will be required for recreational rod and reel fishing in fresh or saltwater. DWR access permits will also not be required during these dates, giving anglers more ways to get outside and enjoy Virginia’s waters.

DWR has also removed the restriction on fishing designated stocked trout waters for Free Fishing Days weekend, opening more than 2,900 miles of trout streams in addition to numerous ponds, small lakes, and reservoirs. Virginia’s diverse trout habitat offers a wide range of fishing opportunities, making this a great weekend to try a new location or help someone experience fishing for the first time.

Before you go, make sure you know the rules. All fishing regulations, including size, season, catch limits, and gear restrictions, will remain in effect. DWR fee fishing areas will still require a fee during the weekend.
