These 3 guitars are from my childhood and they are very special to me. They are all now “retired from service” and are cherished at home. I have countless hours playing on them. They were well cared for over the years and some have had restoration work.

The blue Mako Strat was my first guitar and it was painted by my father. He also later painted the Jackson Rhoads V with flames. It was my second guitar and it was originally black. And the red LTD was the coolest high school graduation present ever! 🎸

New strings and a new look. . .

Doing some temporary pickup swapping. Testing some different bridge models. Trying out a Duncan Design HB103 for now. . .
This Jackson recieved a full fret level, rounded fret ends and recrown, and a fretboard polish. It now feels superb and plays beautifully.

When you try to remove the k**b. . .

This is a common issue with cheap potentiometers. Attempt to “carefully” remove the cheap press fit k**b, and it easily pulls the shaft out with it. And now it’s a goner. I’ve heard many complaints about this issue. Budget guitars typically come with the lowest quality electronics. It’s a good idea to replace and upgrade them to reliable components to save the gig.

The plan for this guitar was to replace all the electronics anyway. And install a CTS or Alpha volume pot, a 5-way super switch, and a Tesi killswitch. And add a set of Seymour Duncan pickups with coil-split. It’s time to read schematics and break out the soldering gun. . . Work In Progress. . . 🎸

Repair and paint job on old pickup rings. . . The white color is a change from those standard black plastic rings. I think they compliment this guitar nicely. Now its wearing a tuxedo. .

This is a Jackson JS12 new out of the box. It features a bolt on neck and a metallic red finish. This budget series model can be a great value after a little work and a good set-up. Some cheaply priced guitars and other budget friendly options can suffer from low quality control standards and can need adjustments and repairs even when brand new. This guitar received a few different repairs and some upgrades to greatly improve playability. The neck alignment had to be adjusted with a neck shim. A screw hole in the guitars’ neck was stripped and had to be plugged with a wood dowel. The fretboard had sharp fret ends, fret sprout, and uneven frets. We rounded the fret ends and it was given a full fret-level, crown, and polish. We have blocked the bridge in a simple fashion with some wood dowels to make it a stable hardtail bridge. We added cost effective shrink tubing to the rear springs for sound dampening. A truss-rod adjustment added neck relief. It was restrung with a new pack of strings and it received a full setup package with height and intonation adjustments.

Stripped strap button hole?
Woody’s Guitar Studio will repair it FREE with any re-string or set-up! 🎸👀

The guitar pictured below had the strap button holes plugged to install a clip-lock strap system, which is sometimes needed when installing strap locking systems or buttons.

- Maple wood dowels trimmed and fit to size, glue bonded, and new diameter pilot holes drilled

* the areas pictured were taped off to protect the finish during repair
