Up To The Mountain Maxwell's AllStars

Boyd Matson published this, recorded at The Evergreen Stage -
Says Boyd: "Up To The Mountain: recorded live by Maxwell's AllStars, friends of mine who are also some of LA's top studio musicians. I set up the session to film songs that would be done in one complete take with no overdubs. I wanted to capture the energy and inspiration of musicians feeding off each other in the creative process. Any mistakes would be part of the final product. It was about connection not perfection. Does the music speak to you. This song does that. I told Michiko Hill I wanted a classical piano sound to kick it off before the song goes into its familiar gospel groove, and she quickly wrote out the beginning riff. She is brilliant. Hadley Hockensmith, my favorite blues guitarist since the first time I heard him play back when we were teenagers, as always picks the perfect notes that sound like emotions put to music. Charlean Carmon's vocals are what everybody wishes they could sound like when they sing. Laying down the groove and the bottom end are Abraham Laboriel on bass and Bill Maxwell on drums. Bill is also the producer on the session. This song written by Patty Griffin was inspired by the legacy of Martin Luther King."
