This online teaching is a trip. The challenge: teach youth and teen students about blacksmithing with no fire and no steel, from the comfort of their homes. Definitely not what I was expecting to teach this week, but it has turned out be a fun and challenging experience. This "craftsmithing" class is not going too bad with the youth.

Pratt asked for a cool picture to hype the online class I'm teaching this month. The only thing that made sense for a youth and teen class was to cast a level 3 fireball out of the oxy/ace torch like the pyromancer I strive to be.

Even the spiders are social distancing. Two different hunting spiders, and I'm pretty sure one had an egg sac. All of us around here are moving our projects along in isolation in our own ways.

Here is a fun commission I just finished up. A set of "osprey" blacksmith knives ordered to celebrate a camping weekend among friends. These are fun to make, and really let me focus on playing in the fire and working on forging techniques. I finally got my kydex going for the sheaths too.

I'm thinking about making a small batch of th else to go on the website. Let me know if that's something people will want. Happy summer to all you kids done with school for the year!

Ten toes down in my Chuck T's. My classes at Pratt are cancelled, the restaurant I was working at closed, and the vending events I was set to sell at are all banned; all due to Covid-19. Add to that the lack of emplyment insurance support for independent artists. That leaves me heating and beating in the shop, getting back to the flames, and transmuting in ways only a blacksmith can. I'm working on some good stuff for all you folks living in quarantine, check the website next week for the first few things popping up. Stay healthy and stay safe, friends! We will beat this virus!

In the meantime, I found my new favorite background for taking knife pictures! This gorgeous handmade walnut and maple cutting board by my friend looks so perfect under a chef knife. He also does all kinds of fine woodwork and finishing which he accompanies with beautiful knotwork.

Pictured here is my new house knife that didn't quite pass some of the more subtle Arachne Forge benchmarks so it is doomed to a life of captivity in my kitchen. Merry Christmas to me, I guess?
